“Cooper, Lynn,” McGonagall said.

A small young girl with dirty blonde hair slowly walked up to the stool that the Sorting Hat had been sitting upon when the First Years walked in. The Great Hall was decorated in its usual attire for the Welcome Feast. Candles were floating high in the air, the House crests hung from the ceiling, which really, they weren’t hanging from; the House ghosts sat down next to others in their represented Houses, and everyone was watching the ‘icckle little firsties’ get sorted. The Hat had already sung its song and a few new students had already been sorted.

Anyway, back to the little girl.

She cautiously sat on the stool and the Professor placed the Hat on her head. It fell over her eyes and almost covered her face but that was okay, it helped that she couldn’t see anyone during this moment. She jumped slightly as she began to hear a voice.

“Hmmm, very loyal and trustworthy. You would do well in Hufflepuff. But ahhhh, what’s this? A secret desire to learn all you can. Yes, if that’s it, outta be RAVENCLAW!” The Hat yelled out loud.

The girl, Lynn, sighed in relief at the House name. She slipped off the stool and made her way over to the cheering Ravenclaws. She looked around for her friend, Jessica. Finally spotting the dark brunette second year, she made her way over and sat down.

Over across the way, while the sorting was still going on, and Slytherin sixth year was flinging rubber bands, something from home, at a sixth year Hufflepuff. He quickly focused his attention back up to the Sorting when the bluenette, now ranging redhead, turned to glare at him. He completely ignored the sixteen year old until he felt a stinging on the back of his head. He rubbed his head through his onyx hair and turned back to glare at his sister only to see her making strange signals at a Gryffindor and a rubber band on the ground next to him with a note. He picked it up and had to let out his signature smirk.

Hush up, melon face, and go play in the snake pit.


The bluenette, known as Maddie, was making strange signals over to the direction of the Gryffindor table. There was the signal of a bird flying, followed by the movement of whacking a bug, and finally a butterfly. Everyone one not paying attention to the Sorting looked at her strangely but Lilac, her Gryffindor companion, seemed to completely understand because she replied with a curt nod.

Just as the last of the cheers went down for the last student, fireworks went off in the Great Hall. It was light up by many different colors and above Dumbledore’s podium read in sparklers:

Welcome to another amazing year at Hogwarts!

Everyone clapped and cheered for the support of their school and ever McGonagall seemed to smile {Snape was another story}.

Yeah, it was going to be a good year.

Lilac raised her eyes at the guy's sudden sarcastic tone. Her friend's brother or not, she'd be more than happy to hex him if he decided to get snarky. Her voice being much more cool than it had been moments before, she retorted "I wouldn't say little..." She hoped he'd get the inner threat...but Lilac doubted it. Slytherin's always seemed to be infuriating and arrogant. As Lilac was contemplating, a flicker of movement caught her attention, and she blinked in alarm. She could have sworn she saw Jame's eyes change colors...but that was impossible. Realizing she was staring, Lilac looked away, chewing the inside of her lip.

Lilac was saved from her awkward situation by the arrival of another person. Yelping in alarm as the girl collided with them, Lilac could only watch as the girl, just like Lilac herself had done moments before, fell flat on her behind. Staring contemptuously at the girl as she glared at the pair of them, Lilac surpressed the urge to spit out a venomous comment. Instead, she pushed James out of the path in front of the castle. "Move, before someone else runs us over." She muttered. Reaching out a hand to help up the new girl, Lilac was just as eager to step away from the line of fire.

RAVENCLAW

James scoffed as another girl ran into them and almost dropped her book. He rolled his eyes, definitely a Ravenclaw. He shook his head, he was surrounded by idiots. When Lilac told him to move, though, he followed the advice. First her then "Alyx" had run into him. Great, just his day. He watched the girls with narrowed eyes.

Lilac didn't respond to the girl's icy introduction, and she let go of her hand as soon as she was upright. Eyebrows arched, Lilac took a step back, staring at Alyx through narrowed eyes. Lilac had never seen her before, though she instantly identified her as Ravenclaw. She seemed like a bit of a snob...that thought was reinforced by her pointed insults towards James. Though Lilac didn't particularly like the boy, not after he'd spoken to her so sneeringly, she still felt rubbed the wrong way by Alyx's snippy comment. One hand on her hip, Lilac looked over at James, waiting to see how he'd react.

"Why yes, I am? Aren't i? The bratty little snob with the 'pureblood' family and rich blood. The one who is annoying as a slug. Haha, awesome," he replied back dryly, trying not to show how much that hurt. And he was actually a nice Slytherin! He scoffed again and crossed his arms. He looked back over to the Whomping Willow and sighed. Wishing to go under to the Shack and escape.

Jamie watched the strange Ravenclaw...sway?...off back towards the castle. He shrugged and started inching his way over to the Willow, trying not to attack attention from anyone. If only there weren't so many people out and about! If there was one or two people, he could.

"Good riddance." Lilac muttered under her breath as Alyx started to move around them. Her mind was too clouded with annoyance to notice how faint Alyx was looking, or how dizzy she seemed as she bumped into a second person on her way around them. Relieved that James and the girl hadn't gotten into a fight, Lilac turned back to him, coldness rekindling in her eyes. She didn't want to stick around him -- all he seemed to do was attract trouble. "See you." She said, turning around and striding off. She didn't know where she was going; her feet instinctively took her to the lake, where her friend was crouched.

Maddie looked as her friend walked up to her. She squinted as the sun was still in her eyes, "Hello there stranger," she smiled, "How art thou?" She sat up and scouted back to the tree, patting the spot next to her for Lilac to sit.





Jamies watched as Lilac walked away. Sighing in relief, he quickly made his way to the Womping Willow and cast the spell on a branch to hit the knob. He quickly ran to the hole and dove in. A few seconds later he could hear the tree moving once more.

Jessica walked over to the hippogriff and patted his head gently. Then tossing a ferret into the air buckbeak immediately seized the ferret snatching it in his beak. Smiling she sat near the post where the ferrets hung. Swishing her wand in the air practicing some new and old spells. After 10 minutes or so she leaped to her feed brushing her skirt then giving the hippogriff once last stroke she headed back off to the castle. Admiring the sunny sky although it wasn't that warm since it was nearing winter.
