Shadowstorm padded over to where he had first started his training with Direstar back when he was Shadowpaw. The memories that he had here were amazing and incredible. He wondered what more there was to it? Did he really even train Streakfire? No, she'd gotten all her training from Firespell. He waited for Blackpaw to catch up.

Blackpaw jogged after Shadowstorm, trying to keep up. He shook his fur getting some snow off his fur. "What are we doing today Shadowstorm?" he asked anxiously. He was cold, and a brand new apprentice.

Shadowstorm smiled at the enthusiasm of his apprentice and he grinned. "Today, I'll teach you hunting, we'll start small and work our way to large then a bit of problem solving. By then, you'll have the strategy to fight." He spewed the schedule to his apprentice. They had limited time too. The day was only so long. "When hunting, keep your pawsteps light and down wind. Then stalk it and barely let your foot make an impact. Then you need to rush it and bite it's neck quickly. Keep your tail hovering and your ears back. Make no noise." He said. He scented the air and there were mice and vole. He went down and stalked a mouse, his tail hovering the ground and his breathing light. He was silent. Then rushed it and bit it's neck after leaping onto it.

Blackpaw was watching when he got a small whiff of, what was that? Vole, he concluded. He tried his best to copy what Shadowstorm had done. He made sure to watch for any twigs as he approached the vole. He also looked back a couple times to make sure his tail was hovering. Then instinct took over. He stalked forward the vole coming into view. He crouched down prepared for the leap. He rocked for a moment then kicked down on the ground, sailing through the air. He landed on the animal, which rolled and clawed his nose, he whined but hit down on the animals neck anyway. He picked the animal up once it was dead and brought it to Shadowstorm. The animal was near all red, with its own blood and Blackpaws. He shook his head flinging a couple drops of blood "How did I...ACHOO!...do?" he asked a sneeze interrupting him.

Shadowstorm grinned as his apprentice brought back a vole, Blackpaw was definitely going to be like he was. A fast learner, and he was proud of it, his apprentice was going to be a great warrior someday. He nodded with pride. "Great job correcting your tail to, making sure it was hovering. Though it is advised to always keep your eye on the prey. Even if it means losing it." He advised. He grinned. "Why don't you do a bit of hunting, like a sort of mini-assessment and see how much prey you can bring back by sunhigh. It's not that far off, but enough to catch a decent amount of prey."

"Okay!" the enthusiastic apprentice yipped. He sniffed the air heavily, he caught the smell of a...mouse. The tracked it and found a large bush, he kept his eyes on his prey, trying to adjust his tail in the meantime. He slowly slipped through the bushes, trying not to make noise. Once in pouncing range his looked and stratigized a leap. He rocked then leapt sailing through the bush, due to his stratigizing. His paw slammed on the mouses back and he heard a sickening snap. He knew he didn't need to bite it. He picked it up and dragged it back to Shadowstorm.

Shadowstorm nodded his approval as he watched his apprentice hunt. "That's great, you even didn't have any problems that time!" He exclaimed happily. This was indeed and exciting day for him. He grinned, perhaps a bit of competition. "If you can catch 5 more pieces of prey, I'll sleep in the apprentices den for a moon while you sleep in the warriors den." He challenged his apprentice.

Blackpaw got a meschevious grin "Ok, but I'll win!" he challenged. Then he started sniffing the air, immediately smelling rabbit. He slowly tracked it, he found it standing beside its babies. He licked his chops greedily, maybe he could eat the babies and give the rabbit to the Clan? Yeah, that's what he'll do. He lowered himself down, checking his tail, he than fluxes hard on the rabbit. He quickly pounced and dropped right onto the animal. He twisted its neck in his jaws and brought it back to Shadowstorm. He then turned back and went and grabbed the two babies, he dropped them by their mother and asked, "Can I eat these?"

Shadowstorm nodded as his apprentice brought in the fresh kill. Ever since his love had returned, he had tried to spend more time training his apprentice and an equal amount of time with her. This didn't always work out. But it was worth trying. "Next we'll work on hunting large creatures. Like Elk and Deer." He announced.

"Ooo! Ok!" he yipped. He smelled the air and didn't think he smelt a deer but there was something else. But what does he know he's a apprentice. He looked up at his mentor, ready to follow him.

Shadowstorm smiled, he admired his apprentices enthusiasm. He smiled, it was really a two person job, very rarely could one just take an elk or deer alone. "When hunting a larger creature, you need two wolves. You and a partner. One of the leaps on the back of the animal and the other one goes for a killing bite on the throat. The one that leaps on the back is basically there to distract the animal." He said scenting around, a herd of elk were ahead. This was a great chance.

Blackpaw nodded at what Shadowstorm was saying. He got excited when he heard they were going to big animals. He smelled the air anxiously "Is that elk?" he whispered. He looked at his mentor to wait for an answer and to go get the elk.

Shadowstorm nodded with pride at his apprentice. He would be a good warrior one day. He had a feeling this would go well. "Why don't you lead this party?" He suggested, he wanted to see what his apprentice knew already.

Blackpaw nodded, he started forward making sure his paw steps were light and silent. He smelled the air again to find the way to go. He started east and found the smell strengthening. He crouched down as he slipped through a thick bunch of bushes. He saw a big male, That'll feed a bunch of wolves! he thought. He whispered "Lets try the big buck over there" nodding at the buck.

Shadowstorm nodded to his apprentice, his apprentice was leading the party so Blackpaw took the actions. Blackpaw decided the course of action and he eyed the big buck. It was not injured, the antlers would be a problem. This was going to be a difficult challenge for the young apprentice.
