---------------- The female wolf sat in the medicine wolf den that would be her home for a while now. She had moved from the warrior's den to the Medicine Wolf den full-time. The change was hard to get used to, and Lightdawn was still unsure of her abilities to be a mentor to one who wished to walk down the medicine road. Nevertheless, she had already used her skills to heal a few scratches to the best of her ability. The last thing she wanted to do was to let Shadestar- or the Clan, for that matter- down. Sighing to herself, she went back to counting her store of herbs. A most important thing had to be accomplished by the end of the day. As leaf-bare was approaching and the leaf colors were changing, it would be less and less likely to come across important plants that were necessary should anything happen. Hopefully she could employ a couple pups or apprentices to help her out if she needed it. Pausing for a moment once more, her eyes flicked from the herbs to outside in the Clan camp clearing, searching for her own apprentice.

| Ravenpaw padded into the den, she smelled of tansy. she had just returned from collecting tansy for lightdawn. the all important herbs were stored in the bag that she had around her neck. she had named it her herb bag. the intelligent young wolf sat beside lightdawn and reported "i collected some tansy and checked the cat mint by the thunderpath. its growing well but we had better harvest it before it gets hurt by a frost" the midnight blue eyes of ravenpaw watched her mentor with acute sharpnes and delicacy. | |

| "Thank you." Lightdawn replied, nodding in thanks to her apprentice. The wolf seemed to have grown quickly mentally within the past few days. Lightdawn was sure that the path of a Medicine Wolf would be the one for her. "Why don't you go put the tansy in the herb store so we can use it later. I would like to harvest that catnip as soon as possible. The frost is coming, I can feel it." Her golden eyes turned to look at the small wolf's bag. "Perhaps you should make one of those for me as well, it would be collecting herbs much easier." the white female said, half-jokingly. "We should also begin to harvest other herbs we are running low on, and any that would be useful in leaf-bare. This could be a tough winter, and I want to be prepared long beforehand." | |

| Ravenpaw nodded "the bag will come in very handy" ravenpaw was very proud of her herb bag. she placed the tansy in the herb store. making sure to place it with the other tansy. she then asked "what herbs are we running short on especially Lightdawn?" the apprentice asked casually. her midnight blue eyes glittered with self satisfaction, she felt calm and on ther ight path now that she was an apprentice. | |

| "Hmmm.." Lightdawn said, her eyes looking over at the herb store. "We should probably get more burdock root, just to be prepared. If wolves are going to the Carrionplace this winter we will need it. Catmint will be useful, but I'm afraid it will probably only be found in Hartford or other Twoleg places. We're also running low on coltsfoot.." She went through the herbs in her mind thoughtfully. | |

| "burdock root is used for infection right?" the young medicine apprentice watched lightdawn with interested midnight blue eyes, the golden streaks through her eyes glittered. tilting her head Ravenpaw suggested "why dont we dig up a catmint plant and bring it back to the clan and raise it in the camp?" she frowned then her eyes glittered "or out the back of the medicine den we could begin a herb patch!" her eyes shone with excitement. | |

| "Indeed, especially for rat bites." Lightdawn said smiling, pleased with her apprentice's progress so far. "We could try that." the white female replied, thinking carefully. "I don't know if these are the right conditions for a plant such as catmint, or if it would survive the winters." Frowning slightly as she thought about the cons of the project, Lightdawn decided it was worth a shot. "It would definitely be revolutionary for a Clan to start a herb patch. It would make gathering herbs much easier, especially with harvesting them as well. Perhaps it will not work out, but it's worth a try I think. The plants would need a source of water and sunlight to grow. How about first we go look for the other herbs we need, and once we have found them we can worry about the garden?" | |

| ravenpaw replied "we could soak moss and squeeze the water onto the plants and when they are big enough they couldg et water for themselves" ravenpaw smiled and said "ill go look for the burdock root" flicking her tail the medicine wolf apprentice padded off out of the camp using her nose to help her search for the right place. finding a good spot she began diggin gand soon she found a burdock root. trotting back to the camp with her prize clenched in her jaws she placed it at lightdawns paws. | |

| Lightdawn nodded. "Perhaps that could work, we'll see." She never really knew much about gardening, but figured that the best way to figure it out was with experience. The female wolf turned away for a moment after the apprentice ran off to find some burdock root. Lightdawn would have preferred going with her, but before she could ask the apprentice had run off. Soon enough Ravenpaw had returned, dropping a burdock root at her feet. "Thank you." Lightdawn said, smiling, picking it up in her jaws and going back deeper into the den, placing it in the herb store. "We'll probably need more, but at least we have some." She commented. "We could go look for some catmint now, but I'm not sure where it would be." | |

| Ravenpaw flicked her ears and suggested "how about we go to hartford and have a look? its not too far away from shadowclan land" she blinked her eyes and sat down. she frowned staring at her paws "perhaps a housepet could show us where some is" she flicked her tail blue eyes far away. she was wondering how fangpaw was. shaking her head she lifted her hhead up and stared at lightdawn with respectful eyes. | |

| Lightdawn shook her head, thinking. "I don't know if we should go to Hartford, but if we do we definitely shouldn't contact a House-dog. They are unpredictable creatures and I'd rather not deal with them. Plus they probably don't know much about herbs, or what catmint even is." She sighed. "But, I suppose if we must, we must. Let's go and see if we can find anything on the outskirts of Hartford." Lightdawn noticed the preoccupied expression on her apprentice's face. "Is there something you'd like to talk about?" she asked, a look of concern etched on her features. | |

| Ravenpaw shook her head and smiled "naw im fine!" she wagged her tail happily and stood she said quietly "wel if we go to a house that has housecats then there might be catmint" she suggested her eyes twinkling with ideas. her tail wagged slowly as she continued thinnking. she sat down and licked her shoulder a couple of times, getting the dirt out of her fur. frowning she tried to keep fangpaw out of her mind, she couldnt be with him. the medicine wolf code forbade it! | |
