Snowpaw training with Graystar

(If anyone would like to enter, feel free to! Since Snowpaw was injured, this takes place before the last Gathering so Snowpaw will be able to train)

Grayheart trotted into RiverClan territory, a breeze blowing past her as she sprinted through the grassy ground. Once she had reached a clearing, she stopped, and glanced back for her apprentice, Snowpaw. It would be time to train, and Grayheart was excited to be training her first apprentice. Letting out a short howl, Grayheart waited for her apprentice to come over to where she was.

The RiverClan wolf glanced down at her apprentice. "I'll let you decide what we'll practice first." She said, twitching her ears. "We could hunt, battle, or something else you can think of." Grayheart added, blinking her golden eyes because of bright sunlight.

Grayheart nodded, and scented at the air. Quickly she could scent deer, and muskrat further away near the river which was close by. "What prey can you scent, Snowpaw?" The RiverClan wolf said quietly, so she wouldn't scare anything away. She scented at the air again to make sure the prey was still nearby, and made sure they were downwind of where they would be hunting.

Grayheart nodded, proud that Snowpaw had scented the prey that she had. "Nice work, Snowpaw. Now which one would you rather hunt first? The deer might be harder, unless there is a young one. Muskrats are easier to catch, I would think." She said, a breeze ruffling her gray fur. Grayheart remembered the first time she had caught a muskrat; it had been walking around near the river. It wasn't that easy to catch, but she finally had after trying a few times.

Grayheart glanced in the direction the muskrat would be, nodding to her apprentice. "Alright, Snowpaw. You can go try to catch the muskrat, I will watch from a distance. I want to see how you'll try to hunt first before helping you learn some techniques." The gray-furred wolf looked at Snowpaw as she waited for him to try hunting.

Grayheart headed slowly in Snowpaw's direction, careful to stay downwind and make sure he couldn't see her as she watched him hunting. Snowpaw found the muskrat rather quickly, She thought, proud of her apprentice. She frowned as she watched Snowpaw jump into the air, but before he landed, the muskrat had ran. Padding over to her apprentice, Grayheart barked; "Sorry you didn't get to catch the muskrat, Snowpaw. Perhaps we could practice leaping more quickly? If you had tried catching it only a few moments before, you might have been able to catch it. What other prey can you scent nearby the river?" The RiverClan wolf added, glancing at her apprentice.

Grayheart scented the air, also smelling the water vole. "Alright, try catching it, and then we could try fishing since we're near the river." She barked, waiting for Snowpaw to go hunt the vole.

Grayheart padded over to Snowpaw, looking at his catch, and said; "Good work, Snowpaw! You've caught a water vole!" She noticed the river and looked as a fish jumped into the air, splashing back into the water. A few more followed it, all landing with a splash. "Want to try fishing now? Or practice hunting on land instead?" She asked Snowpaw, glancing at the wolf.

Grayheart nodded, padding over to the river and sitting down on the grass nearby. "To catch a fish, watch the water and when you see something move, be ready and either pick up the fish or throw it out of the water with your paw. Whichever you can do the most fast." She barked. She blinked when she spotted a fish swim by, and quickly tried to grab it, surprised she was able to catch it. "Well, somewhat like that, I guess." Grayheart said, biting down on the fish and feeling it go limp. "You can try to catch a fish, though make sure your reflection can't be seen in the water."

Grayheart watched her apprentice catch a fish, which flopped on the grass before it was limp. "You're good at hunting, Snowpaw." Grayheart said with a smile. "You'll be a warrior soon if you keep learning very quickly. You can choose what we do next; fishing, or anything else." Grayheart looked at what they had caught so far; a water vole and fish from Snowpaw, and she had managed to find a fish as well. They would need to hide them if they chose to do something else.

Grayheart nodded, looking at Snowpaw. "You're welcome. And alright, we'll work on your battle technique. I'll move what we've caught so nothing tries to take it, however." She added, running over to the edge of a nearby forest of some sort. Grayheart began to dig a slight hole nearby a tree, setting down the prey they managed to catch and covering it with some grass. She then trotted over to her apprentice. "We can train nearby the river. Try and attack me; pretend I'm a ShadowClan warrior who's stepped onto RiverClan territory." Growling and flattening her ears back, Grayheart tried to look like a ShadowClan wolf, watching Snowpaw as she prepared for him to move.

Grayheart moved to the side, moving out of the way only moments before Snowpaw would have landed. I'll need to be more quick next time, she thought. Crouching down, she then watched Snowpaw as she prepared for him to make his next attack. The she-wolf decided she would let Snowpaw work on offensive moves at the moment, so she waited for her apprentice to try to battle her once more.

Grayheart quickly lay down, trying to roll over so Snowpaw would have no choice other than to move or end up on the ground. She tried to think what her next move would be. I'll try going to the river... RiverClan wolves should be prepared for battle underwater. She thought as she waited for Snowpaw to try another move.
