Magmafeather/Bluepaw Training

Welcome to the topic for Bluepaw's training. As before, I shall keep track of all skill points on the topic to assist the leaders, myself, and the apprentice.

To graduate, an apprentice shall obtain all skill requirements: 45 in 2 skills, 60 in a third.

Without warning, Magmafeather quickly ran around to the back of his apprentice. Keeping his claws sheathed, he jumped on top of him. He felt his sense of mindlessness come over him as he attempted to bite his apprentice's scruff.

Magmafeather laughed as he relocated his bite a bit to reduce the pain on Bluepaw. As the shaking began, Magmafeather managed to keep hold, but with some difficulty. As the shaking continued though, he felt his hold beginning to loosen and decided that there was no need to risk falling and hitting a tree or rock. Instead, he carefully released his bite on Bluepaw. He rode him like a horse for a moment, waiting for the right moment. Then, when he felt the time was right, he jumped up, high. As he descended, he tried to focus on trapping his apprentice.

Magmafeather picked himself up. "That was great!" he said. He then realized that his apprentice wasn't nearby. He looked around, wondering where he might be.

He smiled,and crept through the brush. Sneaking up behind him,he stood down-wind. Making sure his scent wasn't present. He then rolled under Magmafeather's belly quickly. And sheathed his claws,and pretended to claw his belly,and then rolled out.

As Bluepaw began to roll out, Magmafeather had an idea. He lifted up his front paw, but stopped short of hurting the apprentice. He meant it as a distraction. The next moment, he attempted to get on top of her again.

Seeing the paw in front of him,he ignore if he was going to behit and role out. Jumping up,he stood up,a suspicious glint in his eye. He smiled. "Should we move on? Like maybe hunting." He sat down,brushing the dusty floor with his tail. "I may need to spread my training. He lifted is head high.

"Perhaps." Said Magmafeather, relaxing and calming his body. "We will go on to hunting." He paused slightly before continuing. "Hunting is no easier, however. It's just a matter of who you're tricking - in fighting, you trick the enemy, in hunting, you trick the prey. You must make it think that there is no alarm, that everything is fine, that it's just business as usual. And then you kill the prey in their moment of paradise. Tell me, what is the most important thing to have in a prey's moment of paradise?" He calmly waited for an answer.

He nodded. Thats true. He then heard is mentor's question. He snapped back to his attention. He paused,thinking for an answer. "Either a distraction,or the element of surprise." He pondered the thought.

"That is indeed important, but it's not the most essential." replied Magmafeather. "No, the most important thing that a moment of paradise must contain is simple - silence. For with every sound, the animal becomes more and more worried, and more and more likely to run away before you can kill it. So, the key is to sneak very carefully - don't step on a twig or even a leaf. Step so softly so that not even a mouse can feel your pawsteps. Then, once you are close enough and the prey is calm enough, you catch it." He paused briefly. "Go out and catch something good. I'll be watching you."

He frowned as his mentor was not going to walk him through the crouches. Or anything about hunting. He just shrugged,and walked off into the forest. He paused,and scented the air. He smiled as he smelled something familar. Well,there is rabbit,mice,stale vole,and a doe. But maybe not go with that. Its too risky. Then he tracked the rabbit. He put his ear to the ground. He felt massive thumps on the ground. He then crouched. Slowly,and crept through the brush. Careful not to wiggle any branches,or step on anything. He saw a white tail flash. He smiled. Found it! He crept closer. He saw it eating some seeds. But he then saw a shadow over to the side. He looked up. A hawk was coming towards the rabbit. He back away. And thought,I need to catch this. As the hawk was about to lift off with it's prey,he left at it. And bit its neck. He felt it "Caw" and shake. Then it fell on the ground under his weight. He quickly killed it,and dragged it back to where Magmafeather was. He dropped it at his mentor's feet. Sitting down,he began to clean his coat.

"Not bad." said Magmafeather. "Would be nice if you had the rabbit as well, but I'll live. And that was a great distraction with the hawk! It's also a good thing you didn't go for the doe. If you smell really hard, you'll notice there's another scent combined with the doe scent. And it's not prey scent. Take a guess at what it really is. Fox, or Badger?"

Hearing his mentor's praise,his eyes shined. But kept most of his excitment hidden. He then heard the rabbit. He flinched. "It got away. But it was wounded in the process." He then heard about the doe. He then tried to re-call the scent. He closed his eyes,and thought back to the moment. Mice,stale vole,rabbit...and badger. he quickly opened his eyes. "There was a badger sett. The deer must have fallen in." He frowned. How come he didn't scent it before?

"Indeed. Come this way." Magmafeather led Bluepaw over to the badger sett. Sure enough, the deer lay inside, injured but maybe still alive. The scent of badger was there. But there were no badgers in the sett. "Must be out hunting or something." he said. "In any case, we'll have to notify Graystar or Shadestar soon. If we let it attack the camp, the pups and elders will be in great danger. You too, perhaps."

After a moment of silence, without warning, a badger sprung out. It pounded straight into Magmafeather, and there was no time to prevent it. Magmafeather was trapped under the badger's weight. Even playing dead did not seem to work.

Frowing as he said he too would be in danger. Then in a flash of gray blur. He was cast aside by a badger. He was laying on the ground. His eyes glazed with shock. He shook his head,and snarled. He hurled himself towards the badger. Knocking it off of his mentor. He smelt blood. His eyes,were now filled with anger. Jumping onto its back he gripped with his claws unsheathed. Then bit down on its neck. He tasted the salty tang of blood,but got thrown off again. Hitting a tree,he tasted his own blood. He shook his head,splattering blood from a cut across his muzzle. He then charged again,meaning to ram into it. Instead he slid down under its belly,raking its belly. Remember what you have been taught. Don't forget a single step. Feeling the badger's legs falter,he rolled out from underneath. Just in time when the badger staggered from its fall. He snarled. His blood running down from his muzzle. Hitting the ground,making it a dark red crimson.

Magmafeather got up, slightly hurt but mostly fine. "Thank you, Bluepaw. You may have saved my life. I will be forever grateful to you." He calmed himself briefly. "Well, with that castrophe over, we shall do some group hunting." He sniffed around a bit. "There is a scent of Moose to the left of you. Lead me to it, and we shall kill a Moose together."

Glaring at the badger,he saw that it wouldn't get up any time soon. He frowned. Then sighed. "Let me do so,so,something first." Running off,he gathered some cobwebs and marigold. Bringing them back,he quickly applied the herbs,and stood up. "it won't die. But it won't come back up soon enough." He then glanced at his mentor and sighed. He remembered seeing some of its pups in there. And he wouldn't leave an animals without its parents. He then tracked the moose. Spotting a brown pelt in a meadow nearby,he ran into some brush,staying down-wind of the moose. He then glanced at his mentor. "What do we do Magamafeather? Whats the plan."

Magmafeather looked the moose over. It was weak, but still had significant strength. He carefully thought about the safest way possible to send his apprentice into the fray. He soon made a decision. "You attack on the left side, fairly close to the tail." He said. "I will then attack the right side."

(No worries )
He nodded. "Ok,lets go." He then quickly ran off to the side. Bunching up his legs,he pounced,landing on its flank,he sank his claws into it. Feeling bone,he gripped it with his mouth. He spit out some brown fur,and began to start to slip off when the moose began to kick. He hopped off,and slowly back away.
Then he ran quickly,and tackled it. It stumbled,and he sank his claws back in. With his weight on top,it toppled over.

Magmafeather watched the moose resist as it toppled over. As it slowly got up, Magmafeather leaped into action as he let his mindless sense take over him. He jumped on top of the moose, sending it right back down to the ground. As he tried to bite in to the moose however, it reared up and stood right back up, injuring Bluepaw and Magmafeather. Ignoring his injuries, Magmafeather slammed into the Moose's right side, disorienting it. He was soon able to send it back to the ground, and this time, it did not get up. Forcing his body to be calm, He turned to his apprentice, keeping down the weak moose. "You may do the final move - bite its neck and it will be dead."

Jumping off the moose,he fell back on the ground. He shook his pelt,and saw Magmafeather take it down. Hearing his instructions. He nodded,then swiftly crouched and bit its neck. He tasted the salty tang of its blood. He felt it flinch,then grow limp. He then relaxed his grip,and licked the blood from his muzzle.

Magmafeather looked to the moose, then his apprentice. "You have done well. You have gone above and beyond the minimum requirements. I doubted you at first due to your place of birth in Shadowclan, but you have sufficently proved to me that perhaps there is some value in the Shadowclan wolves. Perhaps the alliance will work out after all. You are truly ready to become a warrior of Stormclan."

Blinking,he then glanced around. "Ar..Ar..Are you serious? I'm a warrior now? He then walk to his mentor. He bowed his head,then quickly lifted it up. "Tha..Thank you..You have been a good mentor." He smiled,and laid his head on his back. Then back away. "I hope you enjoyed training with me. I certainly have."
