Heatherstar training with Lionpaw

Heatherstar padded into the an area that was deserted other than a large tree stump nearby. A yawn stretched at her muzzle as she sat down along side the stump, waiting for Lionpaw of whom she had asked to meet here. Despite her blank expression the leader was actually very excited, however she tried her best not to show it too much. With a sigh she curled her tail neatly around her paws and continued to wait.

Lionpaw trotted into the clearing, his eyes wide with anticipation. Noticing Heatherstar sitting beside a tree stump he loped over to her smiling. "Hey Heatherstar!" He yipped excitedly, his tail thumping on the ground. "What are you going to teach me today?"

Heatherstar looked up at the sound of approaching paws and stood up to greet her apprentice. "Hello Lionpaw." She smiled. He seemed very eager. "I thought that perhaps today we could start with hunting. Tell me, what can you smell?" Watching Lionpaw she quickly sniffed the air herself, catching the scent of prey nearby. Her gaze did not waver from Lionpaw as she waited to see his reaction. What would he smell?

Lionpaw looked eagerly up at Heatherstar and listened carefully. "Ok!" He raised his muzzle to the air and took in the scents around him. "I can smell grass...wolves...and...rabbits!" His eyes flew open as he recognised the last scent.

Heatherstar smiled encouragingly. "Perfect! Now, for the next step, can you find and kill it? However, when you do find it, you cannot just run at it and hope for the best. You have to use the hunting crouch to stalk it." Lowering herself to the ground she got into a hunter's crouch, letting her belly fur hover just above the ground. "Can you do this?" She queried.
