Ripplepaw training with Graystar

(Though I have another apprentice, Snowpaw; there aren't any warriors in RiverClan who are active and without an apprentice, so I will mentor Ripplepaw as well.

Graystar trotted through RiverClan territory, slowing down her speed as she saw a clearing in the distance. This was a clearing commonly used for training apprentices in; being full of prey, and close to the river, it was a good place to be mentored in. The gray-furred RiverClan wolf sat down, glancing around, a slight breeze ruffling her pelt. She waited for Ripplepaw to arrive; then they could begin on her training.

Graystar watched as she saw her apprentice, Ripplepaw, enter the clearing. The leader noticed the apprentice's hesitation towards being near the river; perhaps it wouldn't last long though. "Alright, Ripplepaw, we're going to start on your training. What would you want to learn first?" The gray-furred leader asked, looking at Ripplepaw. Graystar wondered if Ripplepaw's dislike of the river would prevent her from wanting to learn how to fish; though decided that if that were the case, she could always find a small stream to practice fishing in. The she-wolf glanced around the clearing to make sure there would be prey nearby had Ripplepaw chosen to practice hunting; or a if something such as a cotoye would be close had her apprentice chosen to practice scouting technique.

Graystar nodded, scenting at the air to see if she could catch the scent of any prey. The leader could scent some deer somewhere nearby, a few water voles and mice, and rather far away, a herd of elk; the elk would be really hard to catch, though, Graystar thought. "What types of prey can you scent, Ripplepaw? And what would you like to try hunting for now?" The RiverClan wolf said, her golden eyes glancing around to find any of the prey she'd scented. The leader had noticed once more as Ripplepaw glanced at the river; perhaps after her apprentice was done hunting, Graystar would work on her becoming more used to the river.

Graystar looked at Ripplepaw as she had named the prey she could scent; the apprentice was correct and had scented all of the prey the leader had. "Which would you like to hunt? I'll let you try at first, before we work on your hunting technique." The gray-furred she-wolf replied; the water voles and mice would probably be the easiest to catch, though the deer or elk would be more of a challenge. Graystar wondered how Ripplepaw would do on her first hunting assignment. It had taken Graystar a couple of different tries as an apprentice to finally catch something, though perhaps Ripplepaw would catch something sooner than she had.

Graystar watched as Ripplepaw found and sprang at a mouse; it fled, however, managing to escape to its burrow. "You did well, Ripplepaw. Next time, try to keep your tail down and out of your prey's sight, however; perhaps try crouching down a bit more so that it would be harder to be seen. Try hunting another mouse; I think I scent one nearby." Graystar said, twitching her ears. Her golden eyes glanced around for where the mouse might be, and then she looked back at her apprentice to watch Ripplepaw try and hunt.

Graystar watched Ripplepaw, seeing her work on her hunting crouch; her technique was better this time than last. The gray she-wolf looked up at the willow trees nearby, noticing which direction the wind was blowing in. We're downwind, that's good. I hope Ripplepaw remembered to make sure what direction the wind was blowing towards, as being upwind of the mouse would be a certain way to alert it of your presence. Her golden eyes watched the apprentice, wondering if she'd catch the mouse this time. Ripplepaw seemed to be a good hunter so far; perhaps she'd excel at the other skills too.

Graystar watched her apprentice leap, managing to catch the mouse. The leader nodded, walking over to the apprentice. "Excellent work, Ripplepaw; you caught the mouse while it didn't hear you coming. Would you want to continue hunting, or work on something different?" She asked Ripplepaw, sitting down. The gray-furred wolf twitched her ears as a leaf landed on her fur, looking back at the apprentice.

Graystar twitched her ears, listening to her apprentice. "Well, to scout for prey, you'd scent the air just like you would normally when hunting. After you find a scent, you've found some prey." The leader replied to Ripplepaw. Graystar glanced at the mouse; they would need to bury it for later if they were to leave to another place. The wolf looked back at her apprentice, waiting for her to reply.

Graystar nodded, scenting the prey as well; she hadn't scented the mice earlier. "Good find, Ripplepaw. Would you like to try to catch a few?" The gray-furred wolf said, glancing in the direction of the place the mice were. The apprentice seemed to be good at both finding and hunting prey so far. Graystar wondered how much mice her apprentice would be able to catch; she would need to be quick, as once they knew they were under attack, the mice would probably try to run.

Graystar watched as her apprentice disappeared behind the green leaves of the bush. When Ripplepaw returned, however, she instead brought back an injury rather than prey. "Ripplepaw, are you okay?" The wolf asked, trotting over to the apprentice. She glanced back towards where the mice had been, wondering if they all left before looking at Ripplepaw. "It's fine you didn't catch anything. You're still a good hunter." The wolf said, wondering how bad the apprentice was injured.

Graystar twitched her ears, nodding. At least Ripplepaw only had got a scratch. "You want me to choose? Alright, how about we practice... battle training?" The leader said, glancing back in the direction of the clearing nearby. The wolf looked back at her apprentice; perhaps they could practice fishing later, if she'd want to be so near the river or a stream.

Graystar nodded, walking forward slightly. "Let's bring the prey with us; we can bury it in the clearing for later." The gray wolf said, picking up the mouse Ripplepaw had caught earlier. She trotted back towards the empty clearing; Graystar was a rather fast wolf, so she arrived soon. Sitting down, she looked over at Ripplepaw. "Show me what you know already, though you probably don't know fighting moves I want to see your technique currently."

Graystar hadn't had time to prepare for a battle move, so Ripplepaw took her by slight surprise. The she-wolf would need to expect her apprentice's moves; so far she hadn't. Her grayish blue pelt bristled, and Graystar let out a pretend snarl as the apprentice bit into her fur. Though she couldn't see Ripplepaw ready to rake at her belly, Graystar tried to hold onto Ripplepaw's scruff, lunging forward. Ripplepaw seemed to be good at fighting, and the leader wondered what the apprentice was imagining she was; perhaps as some wolf trying to harm the Clan? Graystar shook her head, deciding she should focus on the battle as she tried to hold onto the apprentice's scruff.
