Lightpaw training with Twistedfoot

Twistedfoot yawned slightly as she padded through a slight forest, her paws leading her in the direction of the river. Sitting down nearby, the dark gray medicine wolf looked around. She had chosen this place to start off at; many herbs resided along the river's sandy and rocky shores. The forest nearby would be home to more herbs, and they could always travel to the marshes or a border if there were other herbs Lightpaw wanted to learn. Her amber eyes glanced down at the calm river waters as she watched the fish swim by, waiting for Lightpaw to arrive.

Twistedfoot looked up with slight surprise as she heard Lightpaw, and she nodded in greeting to her apprentice. "Hello Lightpaw. Is there anything you'd like to work on first?" The medicine wolf asked. Twistedfoot thought about all of her fighting and hunting skills; she hoped she'd be able to remember them well enough. She hadn't remembered ever fighting something else, though she did recall practicing both fighting and hunting.

Twistedfoot nodded at Lightpaw's response. "Alright, Lightpaw. How about we start off with some small battle moves?" Twistedfoot said, standing up on her paws and moving a bit further from the river. "We could start with the front paw blow; to do this, all you'd need to do is bring your front paw down onto your opponent's head." Twistedfoot said, holding up her right paw and swiping at the air. "The leap-and-hold is another fighting move, which can be done by leaping onto your opponent; you'd be able to try the front paw blow after that move, for example." Twistedfoot said. "Even though medicine wolves aren't supposed to fight, we do need some basic fighting skills; we could have to fight against rats, for example, or badgers, or another Clan who doesn't want to follow the Warrior Code." The dark gray wolf continued. "With those two moves in mind, and any other fighting skills you might have, try to practice fighting against me." Twistedfoot said, glancing to Lightpaw.

Lightpaw nodded to Twistedfoot as she explained some of the basic fighting moves. She planned on doing the leap and hold first, then use the front paw blow as Twistedfoot as suggested.
I hope its as simple as it sounds... Light thought. Then, Lightpaw got ready to leap, before she leapt up, aiming to land on her mentor

Twistedfoot's amber eyes watched Lightpaw as she waited for the apprentice to start the battle. Lightpaw had leaped up, perhaps to try the leap-and-hold or another similar move. The medicine wolf stayed where she was, instead letting Lightpaw land on her; even if she did try to move, Twistedfoot was aware that her twisted paw could make it harder for her to sprint away.  Instead, Twistedfoot tried to shake Lightpaw off, wondering what other battle move Lightpaw would try next.

Lightpaw held on as Twistedfoot thrashed trying to shake her off. Swiftly, she leapt back and lashed out a paw at Twistedfoot.
Am I even doing these attack moves right? Lightpaw thought. She attempted to leap again, then slash at Twistedfoot once more.

Twistedfoot had glanced back at Lightpaw as the apprentice leaped back, and had lashed out at her with a paw. The medicine wolf was taken by slight surprise, and was once more as Lightpaw had leaped at her and lashed out again. Twistedfoot tried to think of any different battle moves she could try; perhaps there was even another one Lightpaw would be able to learn. Glancing back over at Lightpaw, Twistedfoot tried to hold onto the apprentice's scruff, shaking her head slightly.

Twistedfoot let go of Lightpaw's scruff as the apprentice kicked back at her, and her amber eyes looked around to see where Lightpaw was. She hadn't expected Lightpaw to try biting at her paws; the medicine wolf stumbled slightly as her apprentice bit her untwisted paw, as she wasn't used to balancing only on her twisted one. Twistedfoot toppled over onto her side after a few moments, and looked back up at Lightpaw. After a few seconds she swiftly swiped out at the apprentice with her paws, in order see how Lightpaw would react to a sudden attack, as it was possible in an actual battle.

Twistedfoot listened as she heard Lightpaw speak, stopping suddenly as she had lashed out a paw at the apprentice. Lightpaw had managed to duck down, before grabbing onto the dark gray wolf's scruff and shaking her. "It's alright, Lightpaw; in battles, always try to use your opponent's weaknesses against them. The move you're doing now is also called the Scruff Shake; it can be good to sometimes use in battle." Twistedfoot tried to say as her head was shook around. Blinking slightly as she tried to focus back on the battle, Twistedfoot tried to get out of Lightpaw's hold by lifting up her head and lashing out another paw towards the apprentice.

Twistedfoot's amber eyes glanced up at her apprentice as she heard her ask a question. "Technically no, we could learn other basic moves if we wanted to. However, usually medicine wolves only learn a few battle moves, such as the ones I've shown you." Twistedfoot replied, thinking for a moment of her mentor; he had surely learned several battle moves, though she also remembered he had been a warrior before becoming a medicine wolf. Blinking slightly, Twistedfoot left her thoughts, looking back to Lightpaw. "We could continue with practicing the three moves I've shown you, or we could move on to hunting or another skill if you would like." The medicine wolf said.

Twistedfoot nodded as she heard Lightpaw's reply, and she stood up on her paws, shaking out her pelt. "Sure, we can work on hunting now; I don't mind." Twistedfoot said, scenting at the air to see if she could determine any prey scents. "Alright, when hunting, the first step you'd need to do is to locate any nearby prey. What can you scent that's nearby, and can you tell if the scent is stale or fresh?" Twistedfoot started, sitting down as she looked over towards her apprentice.

Twistedfoot listened as she heard Lightpaw's reply, and nodded slightly. She could also detect the stale scent of squirrel. "The amount of prey you can find does vary with season or location; you're likely to find more prey in Greenleaf, rather than Leafbare, and it's more likely that there'll be prey in the forest rather than up high in the mountains." Twistedfoot started. "However, it's not usually that hard to find prey provided it's not raining or cold; it will be easier to detect prey scents as you get more used to hunting." The medicine wolf added; while her hunting skills hadn't improved much since she was an apprentice, she did find that it was easier to find out where prey was. "Perhaps we'll find more prey further in the forest or along the river? You can pick any place, and then, once there, try seeing if you can find more prey." Twistedfoot said as her amber eyes glanced to Lightpaw, waiting for the apprentice to chose where to go.
