Jadepaw bounced into the area, her tail wagging wildly raring to go. She sat down in the middle of the clearing, placed her tail over her paws as she waited for an instruction from Duskfang. This is going to be GREAT!, she though and waited patiently. Her ears twitched as she waited.

Duskfang dipped his head in greeting as Jadepaw bounded over. "Greetings Jadepaw." He said in his usual deep voice. He was determined to train Jadepaw to the best of her abilities, so decided to try and discover what areas of training she liked most and worked most strongly at. "I will give you the first choice." His tail swayed back and forth as he spoke, and his mind was calm and focused on the task. "What would you like to do first?"

Jadepaw narrowed her eyes thoughtfully and looked around the area. "What can I do first?" she asked hauling herself up to her paws. She saw a beetle scurry across the floor and pounced on it still in a pup-like manner. She hadn't yet learnt to stalk and pounce properly yet, but this didn't faze her as she crushed the beetle under her forepaws. She would learn soon.

Duskfang listened quietly to her question and watched carefully as Jadepaw pounced on a nearby beetle. "We can start by either learning to hunting or learning some battle techniques and moves." The large male had no preference as to which activity his apprentice picked, and spoke in an equally enthusiastic tone when he stated, "Both are just as important as the other." He began planning out what he would teach Jadepaw first regarding both hunting and fighting in his head as he waited for Jadpaw to announce her decision.

Jadepaw flicked the dead beetle's body into the bushes with a paw and swung her head around to face Duskfang. "How about hunting?" She suggested with a smile. She didn't mind what she started off with, she was just eager to learn as much as she could. She waited patiently for Dusk's answer and instructions.

Duskfang nodded. "Ok then, if you wish." Swinging his muzzle around the bulky brown male attempted to quickly locate the closest unit of prey. Jadepaw would need to do the same too, but in order to know if she was correct or not he had to first distinguish where there was prey to be found. After a moment or so he looked back at his apprentice with a smile. "Now what can you smell?"

Jade watched her mentor closely and copied his actions as she lifted her nose to the air and took in a couple of breaths trying to find a smell she knew. "I.. I can smell rabbit." She stated confidently and perked her ears. "Is that right?" Sh asked Duskfang with a slight tilt to her head. She wanted to make sure she was correct before she did anything else. More than ANYtHING she wanted to become the best warrior she could to defend the clan.

Snowflower padded into the moor. She sat at the side to watch the two wolves. Jadepaw was right, it was a rabbit. She giggled to herself softly and continued.

Jadepaw noticed a white shape approach on the moor sit to watch them. She smiled and chuckled, "I also smell a big white wolf coming to smother you with love!" She teased to Duskfang and waved her tail to Snowflower. "Hi Snowflower!" She called and flicked an ear. Is she coming to join in?, she thought curious.

Duskfang smiled when she announced that she could smell rabbit. "Fantastic!" He praised. He opened his jaws to give the next instruction but paused when Jadepaw spoke. Snowflower? Where? Swinging his head around curiously he searched for the pretty fae's pure white pelt among the grassy moorland. Spotting her a sort of goofy grin took place on his muzzle. "Hey Snowflower." He barked happily, flicking his tail.

"Hey."she said with her usual cheery tone and padded over to Duskfang. "Don't mind me."she said and nuzzled his cheek before sitting down. The fae watched the two closely, for anything that she could teach Dawnpaw. Snowflower gave a light smile and flicked her ear as a 'Go on'.

Duskfang's eyes softened affectionately as Snowflower came over, a big difference from their usually firm look. Registering her 'go on' gesture he cleared his throat and turned back to Jadepaw. " Right... Now that you have located the prey you need to learn how to catch it. What I am about to teach you is very important during hunting, and some can find it difficult to master, so do not worry if you don't get it the first time." He winked. "Rabbits are very vigilant and are always listening out for any noises that might mean danger, so for this reason we have to be as quiet as physically possible when stalking them. We do this by using the hunter's crouch." Lowering himself to the ground he positioned himself into a well-practised hunter's crouch, his belly-fur hovering just above the ground. "Can you do this?" He asked, casting a quick sideways glance at Snowflower.

Jadepaw watched Duskfang intently and hung on his every word. Nodding, she bent down to the floor as low as she could go and her tail between her legs. Her belly fur brushed against the floor and she wasn't sure whether this was right or not. "Like this?" She squeaked to her mentor and frowned. She was concentrating hard but was enjoying every second of it.

Duskfang smiled encouragingly as he stood up and studied Jadepaw's body position. "Quiet good so far, but untuck your tail, it'll help you to balance. Also, if you can, don't bend down so low, because when you're moving if your stomach brushes the ground your prey might be able to hear you. Other than that it looks great!" Even though Jadepaw had not been an apprentice for long, he was proud of her and of her current progress.

Jadepaw nodded, lifted her body higher from the ground so her fur didn't touch it anymore and extend her tail out as her mentor said. "Is this right?" She asked once she thought that she'd done what he'd asked. Maybe I could stalk Snowflower when she's not looking!, Jade thought mischievously but didn't move as to wait for more instructions from Dusk. He was a great mentor and with the help of Snowflower, she'd learn very quickly.

SnowFlower grinned. Jadepaw WAS a quick learner. Dawnpaw's style was to just complete the basics as well. That was good. Not much time would go to waste. Plus, all you need to do is learn the basics anyway. The fae smiled to Duskfang and gave an approving nod.

Duskfang nodded. "Yes, that's it." Smiling he padded up to Jadepaw's side and continued. "Can you still smell that rabbit? Now what I want you to do is hunt it. Stalk up to it using this position and pounce when you get near enough. This is the most difficult part of hunting, and remember that even if you miss when you pounce, give chase! There is always a good chance you will catch it before it gets into it's burrow." Standing back he nodded to let her know that she could start and waited to see what she would do next.

Snowflower smiled and stood up. "And if it does get in the burrow, use your paw to get it out, covering the hole with your tail provides more chances of any of it's family getting out."she said. "It's a mighty useful trick."she chuckled. Snowflower looked to Duskfang and sat back down.

Jadepaw smiled and sniffed the air again. Her first hunt! Of course she'd 'hunted' moths and butterflies in camp but this time the prize was bigger. Catching scent of the rabbit, she stalked down wind of the animal - she over heard this tip from apprentices in camp - and stalked silently forwards, her body close to the ground and her long legs reaching forwards as she glided over the grass. Spotting the animal she slowed down and crept forwards as far as she dared. Waggling her haunches, she readied herself and pounced. "Dang'it!" She growled as the rabbit dashed out of reach but ran after it, hot on it's tail. Jade gave one giant leap and grabbed the animal's rump just as it was about to disappear into it's burrow. "Yes!" She squeaked triumphantly and dragged the wriggling animal out into the open. "How'd you kill it?" She mumbled allowed and sunk her teeth into it's neck until it stopped wriggling. Grabbing it's scruff, Jade carried the dead rabbit back to Dusk and Snow her head held high and eyes gleaming.

Duskfang watched Jadepaw carefully, noting her mistakes and progress. Her stalking was good although her pounce was a bit early. He would tell her that in a minute. Watching he followed her black and grey figure as it raced after the fleeing rabbit as it ran back towards its burrow. She was almost there. Another few bounds. And she had it. A beaming smile stretched across his muzzle when Jadepaw returned with the dead rabbit swinging from her jaws. "Well done!" He praised her, clearly impressed. "That was a very good first catch! However one thing that you could improve for next time would be to time your leap a little bit better. You needed to stalk a little bit closer until you pounce." Even as he was giving his suggestion for improvement he was still grinning. It seemed that Jadepaw would be promising in the field of hunting.

Jadepaw nodded as she listened to the feed back given to her from Dusk. "Ok I'll.. One mo'" she mumbled through the mass of rabbit fur and placed the rabbit at his paws. "Ok, I'll make sure I do that next time." She started again and smiled. She hadn't thought she'd make the catch but was beaming with joy as she had done. "What next?" Jade squeaked eager to learn more.

SnowFlower smiled. "Good job."she said with a smile. She stood up once more and sniffed around. "Carry on."she said. The fae shook out her fur and padded deeper into the clearing. She went closer to the burrow and looked inside. "It's empty."she said and padded over.

Duskfang looked over to Snowflower as she went to examine a burrow before declaring that it was empty. Flicking his ear he turned back to face Jadepaw as she asked what to do next. "Well, now that you've learnt to hunt why don't we try some battle moves?" He wanted to try and train Jadepaw in as many different areas as possible so that she was ready for anything, and fighting was next on his list. "What do you say? You could practise on me and Snowflower." The large male chuckled slightly.

Jadepaw felt tiny in comparison to the two fully-grown warriors which put her off a little about the fighting, but she was determined to show she wasn't weak and put her brave face on. "Sure!" She barked and grinned. "This should be fun." She muttered just loud enough for Duskfang and Snowflower to hear. Lashing her tail she questioned, "What first?"
