Shadowpaw training w/ Direstar

Greetings all wolves, pups may not intrude on this training unless they want a severe talking to. anyone else is free to join in and spice up our rp. this rp will probbaly roam all over sunclans new territory from the stunted forest to the swift river. the statistic idea belongs to magmafeather i do not own it. now Shadowpaw here are your stats are you ready to take the plunge?

Direstar padded up to the sandy slope and sat down, shifting his paws a little grumpily the red eyed leader stared at the sand on the ground. it would be good to train shadowpaw on these slopes, most wolves wouldnt be used to it and should be awkward on the territory. that would give sunclan the edge the leader decided. his thoughts turned to the river.. hmm they would need the exriver clan wolves to show them how to fish, perhaps stoatpaw. shaking his head the leader came back to the present and perked his ears listening for the sound of any apprentice pawsteps.

Shadowpaw followed, his pads already adapting to the mountains. He truly did feel at home, for now at least. He saw the gorge and the two-leg bridge. the bridge was safer. but the gorge was faster. He observed the length across the gorge. "It doesn't look to be that far of a leap across the gorge. But to be safe, should we take the bridge?" He pointed out and asked.

Direstar smiled and flicked his tail "if you jump at the right moment the wind howling through the gorge will help you over it" his eyes twinkled with mischeif "however its best to drag prey back to camp by taking the bridge" backing up a couple of meters the leader with his windclan long legs raced for the gorge. at the last minute he shoved off with his strong back legs and soared over the gorge, he grinned as he felt the wind carry him over. landing rather awkwardly he perked his ears and barked over at his apprentice "its not that hard! give it a go"

Shadowpaw nodded with a smile. He backed up a few more meters then Direstar had, because he was smaller and couldn't spring as far. He ran and leaped, clearing the gorge not as easy. He was not a former Windclan wolf. He was not fast. He was not a former ThunderClan wolf either. He had no leaping power.

steadying his apprentice direstar said "very good work shadowpaw, as you jump the gorge more often your legs will get stronger" he turned and flicked his ears at the forest. inhaling he could smell elk, moose, squirrels, a few mountain birds as well as plenty of mice and other ground rodents. flicking his ears at his apprentice he wondered how much of the prey his apprentice could smell.

Shadowpaw nodded and scented the air. He smelt the small elk, a moose and the squirrels. to him, the other scents were blocked out. "I smell a moose, maybe we can tag team to bring it down and we'd have enough for the entire clan with that one prey." Suggested Shadowpaw.

Flicking his ears Direstar nodded and said "you can plan out the attack where do you want me to go" his ears were perked, his eyes glitterin with intrest and amusement. he knew exactly what he would do. first he would scout and see the moose and then decide where to place the other wolf. flicking his tail over his back the blood stained leader waited with a calm patience.

Shadowpaw scouted ahead with interest. Keening his eyes to get a look at the elk. It had a slightly injured paw. "Direstar, it's has a slightly injured paw. So I could chase it ahead and weaken it, when its weaker we could take it out." He said returning to the spot he was.

"we as wolves dont have the stamina to continue running with a moose even if it does have an injured hoof" his ears flicked and he said "the injured leg would be a good place to attack though, if we can damage it more it wont be able to run properly" his eyes glittered with an intense intrest. flickin ghis ears he crept around untill he was infront of the grazing moose. lifting his tail up he indicated for shadow to scare it towards him.

Shadowpaw nodded seeing the flaw in his plan. He ran out biting at its flank to scare it towards Direstar. He hoped to take this down and get over with it. He could do this. He tried to bite at it's leg but it kicked him.

Direstar exploded out of the bush and sunk his fangs into the weakest point of the mooses leg. crunching down with his fangs he growled at the moose while saying to shadowpaw "use defensive fighting if it tries to hurt you" he tore and snapped at the mooses weak leg. blood red eyes unnerving the animal slightly

Shadowpaw nodded as he got up, the kick had knocked him to the ground and his head was bleeding slightly from the injury. He stuttered to the side, but evened out his walking. He smiled and bit the neck of the moose to kill it. It's eyes closed shut in death. He thought to himself a prayer to Starclan to thank them for the food.

direstar nodded to shadowpaw "well done, continue hunting ill be watching and guarding the moose" he flicked his tail and demonstrated the hunting crouch "if you are stalking mice remember that they can hear your footsteps so walk lightly" flickin ghis ears he lay down beside the rapidly cooling moose.

Shadowpaw nodded a bit dizzily. He scented the air, the strong scent of moose he tried to block out. the faintest scent of vole came to his nose. He looked for it and found it. Stalking it weakly. He leapt, missing it by the length of a mouse tail.

regarding his apprentice direstar said "why dont you have a bit of a lie down and eat some of this here moose" his eyes darted to the wound on the apprentices head "that will probbaly leave a scar shadowpaw" twitching his ears he yawned and glanced around slightly.

Shadowpaw sighed, a scar on his first day. He was so useless! He knew he needed to try. "I'm not sure what to do. I mean, it seems like I'm useless." He sighed out sadly. He wished Oakpaw was here right now.

"you arent useless! you managed to kill a moose on your very first lesson" his eyes glittered "not even i managed to do that though ivyfrost wasnt the best of mentors" flicking his tail with anger at russetstars choice the leader turned his attention back to his apprentice. "practise your stalking for now shadow"

Shadowpaw looked at Direstar. "You did all the work though. I only killed it. I couldn't get near it without getting a scar for Starclan's sake." He said, though he wasn't really focused on something else. Though he was hiding it. He practiced stalking mice. His tail sweeping the ground.

Direstar nodded then said "no one is perfect shadowpaw, inhale through your nose and try to scent some prey," he himself could scent several mice and also a stale scent of fox now that they had moved. he flicked his tail and waited for the apprentice to notice them.

Shadowpaw scented, stale fox hit his nose. "Stale fox, a few days old." He reported happy. He looked and scented again, finding nothing. He was now tired.

"continue scenting around shadow, there are plenty more scents out there to be smelt" the warrior wawtched his apprentice with a careful eye, perhaps the apprentice would prefer to do more fighting? no if he caught a mouse by himself then he would teach shadow some more fighting moves.

Shadowpaw continued scenting around. A mouse, a bit stale, but no doubt near by. "Mice, I smell many mice. The scents are stale, but not very stale." He reported, not really understanding the point of the exercise.

Direstar nodded "its always important to be aware of the scents on the breeze, when hunting there is always more than one scent around and when scouting for predators lack of prey could mean that its close by" his blood red eyes glittered with wisdom "try hunting the mouse, remember to keep your tail either tucked in or stuck out behind you just a little above the ground" stretching the leader flicked his ears over to where the mice were hiding.

Shadowpaw nodded, he was learning so much now! His eyes darted as he breathed in for scents. "I smell faintness of vole too." He said, before focusing on the mouse. He narrowed his eyes more and stalked it carefully, letting his tail hover above the ground. He leapt at it, catching one barely. He killed it with a bite to the neck and he scented for more prey.

Direstar grinned and gave a small bark of congratulations "well done shadowpaw! you are turning out to be a good hunter, even i didnt scent the vole" twitching his ears he smiled his pads aching a little. standing he stood up and shook out his fur "now would you like to continue hunting or spar a little more?"

Shadowpaw smiled at Direstar's compliment. He thought about the question carefully. Where did he need to most improve? "Can I hunt for a bit more, then can we practice?" He asked, hoping that it was OK with his leader.
