Thistlepaw padded out of camp with his father. He was filled with boundless energy! Putting all of his troubles out of mind, he made sure to focus on the lessons at hand. The quicker he could train meant the faster he could become a warrior! The boy knew he had much to learn, and therefore wanted to dive into it all head first. Looking up at Direstar with a puppy-like curiosity in his eyes he asked, "What are we going to do first!?"

Direstar pretended to think for a bit then said "well since you went to windclan so bravely to fight i think i should teach you some battle moves! hmm try to slam your paw down on my head. if this move hits it can stun an apponent. His red eyes twinkled with kindness for his son. he thought that THistlepaw would be a good leader one day.

Thistlepaw nodded and a determination filled him. If his dad was a leader, he would have to be one of the best fighters in the forest, right? He didn't allow his doubts of his own capabilities to scare him off from trying, though. His pale yellow eyes focused on the form of his father. Running forward with all his might, the young boy tried to send a paw towards the head of his father.

Direstar let it hit him on the brow. he could have moved out of the way but he wanted his son to get a feel for doing the moves right not wrong. he smiled and said "well done Thistlepaw, another good technique is the twist. you run at your target and slide onto your back going underneath them you rake your claws down their belly"

Thistlepaw felt a slight pride fill him as his paw hit its target. Of course he was a little off balanced while doing it, and would need a lot more practice, but he got it on his first try! Nodding at his father's instructions, he looked at the tall, lanky form of his mentor and tried to figure out what the best way to get the job done would be. He knew in the heat of battle he would not have this kind of time.

Running forwards he attempted to dodge the paws of the wolf before him and twist upside down beneath his father while lightly scratching his stomach. The only thing that left him with, though, was on the ground coughing as dust filled his lungs. Sitting upwards he blinked his yellow eyes a few times and looked towards his father. Maybe he would have a few tips for him.

Direstar nodded and said "you did a good job son, next time try and get up as soon as you are out from under the body of your target, that way your head will be out of the dust cloud. with the paw slam leap from both paws and use your tail to help balance you thats what its for". he grinned then said "try doing either one of them again". his blood red eyes watched his son with affection.

Thistlepaw nodded thoughtfully and repeated his father's tips in his mind so he could remember them. Then crouching down, he watched his father as his tail flicked back and forth in the dust surrounding the two of them. Suddenly racing forward, he focused on the area of his father's head where he leaped forward with paws outstretched. Moving his tail outward, like his father said, for balance, the boy made a light contact there before jumping backwards away from his opponent. Wobbling slightly but managing to stay upright, a victorious smile passed over the apprentice's face before moving his gaze to watch his mentor and see his reaction.

Direstar shook his head a little dizzy from the tap. he then gave a rakish grin "well done thistlepaw! A move Ripplestone showed me was running at your enemy aiming for their throat then at the last minute sweeping down and grabbing one of their paws". his blood red eyes glittered and he said "why dont you try it out on me?"

Thistlepaw noticed his father shake his head and once again allowed a smile to pass over his features. Listening intently to his father's words he nodded before crouching down once more. Jumping up and running towards his father in a sudden burst of energy, he reached out, claws outstretched, before instead moving to lightly jump at his paws mid-air. Then leaping away from his father he stopped in the dust and stood there a few moments to get his own breath back.

He flicked his ears and said "good job, now try leaping up into a branch and down onto my shoulders. thats a good quick way of pinning a target. in the heat of battle the wolves will be focusing on each other not up in the trees. its a good stratagey. Also scratching at others ears is good it makes blood run everywhere and makes them feel like they are more injured". he stood and nodded for his apprentice to shinney up a tree and leap onto his shoulders.

With wide eyes Thistlepaw made his way to one of the nearby trees, shooting a nervous glance in the direction of his father. Taking a deep breath he turned to the tree and used his claws to grab a hold of the bark. With one slow paw after another he made it to one of the more sturdy branches. Making sure to hold on tight to the limb desperately, he slowly inched his way to the edge of the branch. Looking down he saw his father standing there and questioned whether this was a good idea. Knowing the distance below wasn't too great, he said his prayers to StarClan before letting go and attempted to jump off of the limb to land on his father lightly below.

Direstar grunted as his son landed on his back. he fell to the ground, after laying there for a few moments he lifted his head and said "see it works, now get off me you lump of fur". he let out a bullfrog laugh and sat up tumbling his son off his back. he turned and said "you have brawn son never forget to use it, with a good timed shove you can tip over an enemy or save a clan mate" he frowned looking around then focused on a cushion plant. a large alpine plant that was soft "practise your head smacks on that son"

Another grin passed over his face as Thistlepaw slid off his father and onto the ground beside him. The apprentice affectionately cuffed his paw over his mentor's ear before moving away. Nodding at his father's words he took an offensive position and crawled over to his father, attempting to land a smack on the right side of his opponents face. Thistlepaw did not move away this time and was ready in case his dad decided to retaliate.

This time Direstar moved and dodged Thistlepaws attack and went for his own one. he struck out with alarming speed aiming for for his sons brow. his blood red eyes twinkled with amusement as he watched his son. his red pelt glittered in the sunlight.

As his paw met air Thistlepaw was surprised when his mentor quickly moved away at lightning speed. The next second he felt something make contact with his face. Stunned he stumbled backwards, shaking his head to get rid of the stinging pain there. Now focusing back on his father he ran straight for his mentor with his head down, aiming to ram into the wolf's side. At the last second he changed direction and attempted to swipe the legs and paws of Direstar to make him lose his balance.

Direstar winced as his sons claws raked across his paws. he moved out of the way and manuvered himself. his blood red eyes glittered and he lightly ran at his son. instead of swerving away or leaping under him. direstar leapt over his son aiming to drag his back claws along Thistlepaws back. his red hide moved with astonishing speed.

As his claws met their target Thistlepaw whirled around in the dust, coughing as it filled his lungs. He saw a dark shape approach him. Preparing himself for the weight of his father to hit him full force, he was surprised when the leader leaped over him instead. Direstar's claws raked over the apprentice's body and the boy let out a slight whine of pain before turning around and running full force at his mentor while he was still regaining his balance from the jump.

quick as a blink of an eye he balanced his front paws and sent his back paws flying toward his son. his red eyes glittered with laughter. his ears pinned back as he concentrated on his current task. sneezing slightly from the dust he waited for the incoming impact. the red furred male loved mentoring his son, his son was smart and curious. he rather enjoyed mentoring him. he decided that next he would teach him to scout for predators..

Not expecting the sharp claws to meet him as he ran to hit his father, Thistlepaw fell backwards, shaking small droplets of blood off of his face. They stained the dirt below as he recovered from the clever attack by Direstar. Thistlepaw moved around the claws and attempted to slide underneath his father and perform the light belly scratch, though he made sure not to use all of his power.

He was no match for his father, the apprentice knew, for his mentor always seemed to be one step ahead of him. The boy did know, however, that he would never want to meet Direstar on the battlefield. He may look lean and not intimidating, but there was a strength and quickness there that could outmatch any warrior! Sliding out of the position and seating his rump down in the dust, he looked at his father with pale yellow eyes as it settled. He would have to practice his battle moves a lot

Direstar gave a light omph as he felt his sons claws on his belly. the red brute flicked his ears and nodded "good job thistlepaw, lets put those newly learnt moves to good use. scout out some predators and choose one that you think you can defeat. Predators are a menace to our pups and prey so we have to kick them out". hegrinned and waited for thistlepaw to get to work.

Thistlepaw took a few moments to catch his breath. Direstar had put him through his paces, that was for sure. Nodding to his mentor, Thistlepaw turned and walked in a random direction. The trees became thicker here, and the leaves crushed beneath his feet. Focusing on the task at hand the apprentice crouched down low and crawled forwards while always sniffing the air. He wasn't quite sure what he was looking for, but he hoped that the predator was something he could actually defeat. Turning around to look at his father for assurance, Thistlepaw then turned back around and sniffed the air again. A scent of some kind of canine reached his nostrils, but it definitely was not wolf. Coyote!

Inching forwards he saw the predator in a clearing up ahead. It appeared to be hunting as well, but for prey. The coyote was lean but had a fierce look in its eyes. It didn't seem to have noticed him yet, though. Waiting a few moments until he was close enough, Thistlepaw burst from the brush and began running towards the coyote. It turned to look at him, snarling and moving into a defensive stance. With a small leap the boy moved in and used his claws to scratch his opponent in the face, causing a few drops of blood to spill. With a growl the coyote attacked, biting into the scruff of the smaller, still-growing apprentice. A cry of pain escaped from the jaws of Thistlepaw before an equally loud growl emerged. Breaking free of the coyote's hold, he used his head and rammed into its side. The coyote lost its balance and Thistlepaw used this advantage to grab ahold of the scruff of the canine with his jaws and shake with a fierce grip. Letting go after a few moments Thistlepaw sent one last hit to the canine's face to make sure it got the message. With one last yelp the battered and bruised coyote ran from the scene and into the forest.

The apprentice turned to look at his father with a triumphant grin. He had trained while still protecting the Clan as well! The place where the coyote bit stung a little, but it wasn't anything the pale-eyed wolf couldn't manage. Trotting over to Direstar he sat down to await further orders.

Direstar nodded with aproval "well done Thistlepaw, i dont think that coyote will be back for a while. Try to find and flush out a fox, its been eating local birds eggs and we cant have that" he flicked his tail and sat down waiting for his son to get to work. he enjoyementoring he realised and his son was a good learner. he flicked his ears and grinned with pride.

Thistlepaw nodded and a smile passed over his features at the happy expression his father's face now hosted. Their training was quickly advancing, perhaps he could become a warrior soon! He would no longer be left behind by his brothers and sisters, and he would prove that just because he was set back a time by the death of his mentor didn't mean he couldn't be a good fighter for SunClan. With a determined look in his eye, he once again looked away from his father to go search for this nuisance.

Sniffing the air he could scent the slight stench of a fox, like his father said. Stalking forwards the young wolf found the bushy-tailed beast inspecting a bird's nest which had fallen from the tree above. Quick as a flash the apprentice attached his paws to the other side of the tree, where the mammal would not be able to see him. His opponent was too busy inspecting its next meal to worry about what was happening in the air above him, and so without hesitation Thistlepaw crawled up the bark and jumped off of the branch and straight onto the back of the fox below.

The predator let out a piercing shriek as it was suddenly attacked by above. Writhing on the ground beneath him, Thistlepaw weighed the fox down firmly with his weight before bending down and giving it a quick bite to the scruff, not enough to kill but enough to scare, surely. Then releasing his weight he allowed the predator to escape and run through the brush back to who-knows-where. Hopefully, like the coyote, it wouldn't be back too soon- especially since it hadn't gotten a good look at its attacker. Smirking slightly, Thistlepaw was about to return to his mentor when another smell reached his nostrils. It was one that opened his eyes wide in alarm. Bear!

Right as the realization hit him, a large paw did as well. Thistlepaw was sent flying and laid, stunned on the ground as the large, fluffy predator approached with a fierce expression on its face. A growl emerged from Thistlepaw even as the much larger animal came towards him. There was no way he would be beaten by this thing! He knew he couldn't do alone, though, not with those huge jaws pointing towards him. The boy let out a yelp, asking for assistance from his mentor as his doom seemed to come lumbering steadily closer.

Direstar sailed through the air and slammed into the bears side, without another word he slipped under iti snarling. he sunk his fangs into its belly fur and kicked and tore with hsi claws. hoping to starclan that this would stop the bear from killing his son. the thought made him sink his claws deeper into the thick fur and skin of the bear.
