Lunapaw training with Snowstorm

Lunapaw and Snowstorm's training. If anyone would like to join, they most definitely can!

Luna trotted through the forest. She was not in a hurry. SHe was trotting with medium speed so she could enjoy the view of the trees and the small animals around. She stopped for a second and sniffed the air. She caught the scent of the trees and Snowstorm's scent too. She was on the right way. She smiled then with a fast gallop she appeared on the place, where her mentor was waiting. "Sorry if I was late Snowstorm." she said with a soft voice. With excitment in her eyes she asked curiously "What are we going to do today?"

Snowstorm turned his attention to Lunapaw as his apprentice appeared. "It's okay Lunapaw, you're not late," he said, standing up. He padded over to her and said, "First, I want you to take in the scents of the forest and tell me what you can smell." The white wolf watched his apprentice and waited for her to smell the air. Snowstorm hoped that he would be a good mentor and that he could teach his apprentice many things.

Snowstorm told Luna that she was not late at all. Then her mentor padded over to her and told her to take the scent of the forest and tell him what she can smell. The apprentice nodded as she lifted up her muzzle and took a deep breath. The first scent she caught was the scent of the trees. Then a weak scent of a squirrel dashing around these trees. "The trees... and a squirrel..." she said as she glanced at her mentor.

Snowstorm listened to what Lunapaw smelled and then lifted his muzzle into the air, taking in the scents of the forest. And sure enough, he smelled exactly what Lunapaw had. He looked back down at his apprentice and smiled. "Very good Lunapaw," he said. "Next, I'm going to take you down to the river and teach you how to hunt and fish." The white warrior turned and began padding away toward the river, slowing down after a bit so that his apprentice could catch up to him.

Snowstorm lifted his muzzle and smelled around. With a smile on his face he told Luna that she cope very good. Then he added that the next thing he will teach her will be how to hunt and fish. The apprentice nodded and as soon as her mentor padded towards the river she followed him. When they were to the river Luna looked at the water and with an unsure voice asked. "Is it hard to fish?" Luna enjoyed swiming but she did not really like the water in that season. It was freezing cold and sometimes dangerous.

Snowstorm padded up next to Lunapaw and answered her question. "No, it's not hard once you learn how." He crouched over the water. "Stay very still, and watch what I do." He watched the flowing current, never taking his eyes off of it. Soon he saw a silver flash, and he quickly shoved his head into the water. The white wolf felt his teeth bite into flesh, and he lifted his head out of the water. Clamped in his jaws was a good sized fish, struggling to escape. Snowstorm bit down hard into the scaly creature and it went limp. He placed the dead creature on the ground beside him, then looked at Lunapaw. "Try to do what I just did."

Snowstom said it was not hard at all but first she need to learn how to fish. He told her to stay put and watch. Luna nodded at glanced at her mentor. He watched the flowing current, never taking his eyes off of it. Soon he saw a silver flash, and he quickly shoved his head into the water. Then he lifted his head out with a fresh, still moving, fish. It was trying to escape but it was useless. Snowstorm bit down hard into the scaly creature and it went limp. He placed it on the ground beside him and looked at Luna. He told her to do the same thing so she just nodded and padded to the water. She took a position and looked at the water carefully. She had such a piercing gaze that she could catch a single flash of silver. And she did. As soon as she saw the scales of a fish flashing she shooved her head in the water and stuck her teeth in the prey. She lifted her head out of the freezingly cold water as she bit the fish harder. As soon as it limped she dropped it over the scale creature which her mentor caught. She shaked her head trying to get rid of the water drops on her fur.

Snowstorm watched his apprentice attempt and succeed at catching a fish. "Very good Lunapaw!" he praised. "You learn very quickly." He then turned away from the river and lifted his muzzle into the air before taking in the scents of the forest again. This time, he smelled a water vole. And if his nose was correct, then it was close. The white wolf looked out of the corner of his eye and, sure enough, spotted the small creature scurrying along the the edge of the river before looking back at Lunapaw. "Now you're going to learn how to hunt. Take in the scents of the forest once again." He told his apprentice.

Luna's ears twitched as she smiled when her mentor praised her. Then Snowstorm took the scent of the forest again. It seem he caught something interesting. When he looked at the apprentice again he said that she had to learn how to hunt. He also added to take the scent of the forest again. She nodded and lifted her muzzle up as she took a deep breath. She caught the scent of a small creature but could not guess what it is at the first time. She took the scent of the forest again and recognised the scent of the animal. It was water vole. She looked around carefully and saw it along the edge of the river. "A water vole..." she said as she pointed at it with her nose.

"That's absolutely correct." Snowstorm said. "Now. Show me how you hunt." He watched his apprentice and waited for her to attempt to catch the small furry creature that was still scurrying along the edge of the river. The white wolf still couldn't believe that he had an apprentice. It seemed like just yesterday he was sneaking around the RiverClan camp as a pup, trying to scare the warriors.

Snowstorm said that she is right. Then he told her to show her mentor how she hunt. Luna nodded and looked at the vole. Before attacking she had to make a quick plan. The apprentice remembered once when she was a pup how she used to train by attacking a log. But that wouldn't help her now because the pray was smaller. She made a quick plan then with slow steps she began getting near the pray. Before reaching it she stopped and lowered her body. She stretched her front paws and folded her back ones. She lowered ears and slowed her breathing. She was hidding under the snow. It was quiet and the only thing that could be heard and seen was the little water vole. When the creature got enough near it was time for an act. Suddenly Luna submited her muzzle from the snow and grabbed the vole with her jaws. She bit hard and crushed it's neck for less than a few seconds. She got out of the snow and trotted back to her mentor as she placed the dead creature front of his paws.

Snowstorm watched Lunapaw hunt, and then nodded happily when she set it at his paws. "That was a very good catch Lunapaw." He said. "You used you're surroundings to you're advantage. Very good." He looked around before turning his attention back to his apprentice. "But you must always remember to keep you're tail low. See if you can find more prey and catch it while keeping you're tail barely above the ground."

Snowstorm was pleased. He praised her for her good catch but he also gave her an advice. She did not know that her tail should be low when she hunts. Her mentor told her to try to find more prey and catch it while keeping her tail above the ground. Luna nodded and slowly trotted near the river. She sniffed the air and caught the scent of another water vole. It seems that today she had luck. She did the same thing as earlier, hiding in the snow, but this time she kept her tail barely above the ground, following her mentor's advice. She managed to catch this one too. She grabbed it with her jaws and trotted back to her mentor. She placed the dead creature over the other vole and wagged tail hapily. "How did I do it?" she asked calmly.

"That was great Lunapaw!" Snowstorm replied. He looked down at all the prey that they had caught. "All this prey will be good for the clan." He chuckled. He then thought of another way to train Lunapaw. "Alright." He began. "Now I want you to try to track this fish down." The white warrior said, pointing at the fish that his apprentice had caught earlier before putting his nose down, close to the ground and started walking and sniffing at the same time, though he wasn't actually tracking anything. He lifted his head after a bit and padded back to Luna. "Track like that." He said. "Now turn away and I'll hide the fish out of site." The mentor watched his apprentice and waited for her to turn away.

Snowstorm said that she done a great job. That made her feel even more confident. The next thing that her mentor was going to teach her was how to track things. He was planning to use the fish that Lunapaw caught earlier. He showed her how to track and Luna watched carefully every of his movements. Then he told her to turn away so he can hide them. She nodded and turned away facing the river. While she was waiting she licked her paw and prepared herself. The apprentice was pleased from her mentor's lessons. She hoped that she will become a great warrior and make Snowstorm proud one day.

Snowstorm picked up the fish as Lunapaw turned away and very quietly, took it somewhere out of site. He found a spot that he thought was far enough away from Lunapaw, and soon came out back out of the bushes, his jaws empty now, and saw his opportunity. The white wolf slowly crept over to his apprentice and when he got close, shouted, "Boo!"

A sudden Boo scared the apprentice a little. She turned around and smiled to her mentor. It was time to track the fish. She lowered her head above the ground and sniffed the place where the fish used to be. Catching it's scent she took few steps forward. Then followed the scent to a tree where it began fading. Then she took few steps back and continued but this time to few bushes. The scent there was mixed. It had scent of fish and some kind of herbs. She lifted her head up and took a deep breath. The fresh air cleared her lungs. She lowered head again and continued tracking. Finally she caught the strong scent of the fish. She walked straight in the bushes. She saw the fish and with a smile on her muzzle she grabbed it in her jaws and trotted back to her mentor.

Snowstorm smiled as Lunapaw brought the fish back to him. "Perfect Lunapaw!" He said. He then began padding back to the hollow, looking back after a bit, still walking. "Now I'll teach you one of the most important things to know when you're in a clan. I'm going to teach you how to fight." The white wolf soon reached the training hollow and turned to the direction where he came from, waiting for his apprentice.

Snowstorm said it was perfect. Luna smiled and wagged tail happily. Then her mentor padded back to the hollow. He said that now he will teach her the most important things in one clan - how to fight. Lunapaw nodded and padded after her mentor. She finally reached the training hollow where Snowstorm was waiting. She stopped on a metre away from her mentor and looked at him with her gray eyes.

Snowstorm looked down at Lunapaw as his apprentice appeared out of the bushes and waited for him to begin teaching her. He got into a defensive position. "Alright, attack me!" He barked, ready for his apprentice to attack him. He remembered doing this with Graystar when he was an apprentice himself.

Snowstorm took a defensive position. "Alright, attack me!" he said. Luna's ear perked as she took a position. She assess his position and the ways she could attack him. A grin appeared on her muzzle. She took few steps forward then suddenly dashed to her mentor. Instead of attacking him she slipped under his body and appeared behind him. It was good that she was not fully mature right now and her body size was advantage but she knew that this won't be in use when she grow up fully. Before her mentor turned around she jumped on his back and bit his neck back. She knew it was just training so she did not bite really hard.

Snowstorm felt a weight on his back and a bite on his neck. He thought quickly and rolled over, knocking Lunapaw off. He rolled back to his feet and looked down at his apprentice. "Good, good! Use you're size and speed to you're advantage." He said, getting into a defensive position again. "Attack me again!" The white warrior was again ready for an attack. This time though, he would try harder to avoid Lunapaw's attack.

He suddenly rolled over and knocked her off. He then rolled back on his feet and said that it's good that she use her size and speed for advantage. Luna fastly got up and looked at her mentor. He took the same position and said to attack again. Luna looked at him. He might be surprised how fast she can be in danger situation or even just for fun.
The next thing she took advantage of was the environment. She turned around and threw some snow at her mentor's face. This would keep him busy for few seconds. The apprentice ran to his left side and used her strenght which unlike the speed was a weakness of hers. That's why she always counted on her speed and intelligence. She managed to fling him on the ground. Lunapaw placed her both front paws on his chest and looked at her mentor.

Snowstorm wiped the snow off of his face with one of his front paws. But he didn't have time to do anything before Lunapaw knocked him over and pinned him down. He went limp, pretending to surrender, making Lunapaw's guard go down before he grabbed onto her with his two front paws and flipped over, pinning her down. Not hard enough to hurt the apprentice, but still firm so that she could not break free. "Good job, using the environment to your advantage as well." The large white wolf said to his apprentice, still keeping her pinned to the ground.
