Greenleaf, prey is once more plentiful. The forests and Moors are filled with tasty nibbles of prey while the river is almost choked with fish.

Nightfeather yawned as she sat by the old, burnt tree. She had told Apachepaw to meet her by the Burnt Sycamore for training, but she neglected to tell him when to arrive. She hoped that the apprentice would arrive soon, but if he didn't, it wouldn't be too big a deal. The day was still young, they had plenty of time to train. Even if they didn't have much time, it was better than continuing to neglect the apprentice's training. While she waited, the female looked around her, watching the life that risked coming out of their homes with a predator so nearby. Today would be a good day for hunting, a skill that she hoped to focus on before training Apachepaw fighting skills.

Apachepaw noded, his voice quiet as he mused," Since I was pushing down and pulling my center of gravity was little off balance, perhaps once could roll away taking me with them using the momentom to kick me in the bell and try to spereate themselves and get away fully. " he shrugged the plan had many flaws, once could easily be pinned when doing that, but it could also be good since one wouldnot expect it.

"I wouldn't have thought of that," Nightfeather said, considering the idea. It had flaws, but it would be unexpected, which is almost always a good thing. "I'm not sure if it would have been worth the risk, though," she said, finally. She continued to think about the idea before returning to Apachepaw. "Do you have any other questions? Now is the time to ask anything you want to know, now that we can actually think," she said.

Apachepaw thought, but his mind was so filled with thoughts that he wasn't able to put a thought together. "I can't think of any at the moment, but I am sure i'l lcome up with one soon." he said, smiling.

Nightfeather nodded. "Is there anything else you'd like to work on today, or would you rather leave it here for today and return tomorrow?" she asked. There wasn't much else to do - any prey that was in the area had likely fled during the "battle" - however there was still quite a bit the apprentice had yet to learn. Still, there wasn't any rush to complete his training, and she felt he would learn better if some decisions were left to him.

Apachepaw looked up at the sky as he contemplated this offer, "Honestly, I would prefer to practice at night." He admited," I want to test out the hutning style I used on you earlier at night when its easier to hide my pelt, I'd also like to try out hunting birds since it seems I've been rather unscusseful with those animals. " His cocked his head looking up at Nightfeather, "I'm not sure which to start with?"

"You can test your hunting style out a bit while hunting birds," Nightfeather suggested. "Birds will fly away at even a slight chance of danger. Stealth will, obviously, raise your chances of catching them," she said while looking around at the trees. "If they do fly away though, they don't tend to stay away for long." As she said those words, a couple sparrows - who Nightfeather suspected had fled during the battle - flew into a tree, chirping loudly. "The main thing to remember is to be as sneaky as you can, while still moving fairly quickly. They don't stay on the ground for long."

(I forgot to tell you that Apache hunt and caught a Vole at the Windclan/Shadowclan border and failed to catch a bird he is now searching for herbs. Also this is a fast reply so there will be a ton of mistakes.)

Apachepaw nodded as he listened to Nightfeather, his eyes catching moment and turnig to watch as the birds returned as she spoke his ears twitching in amusement. Getting to his feet the male once again fell into the silent stalk he had been practicing, using rocks, bushes, trees, shadows, and the accasional dip in the ground to help conceal himself. Moving with the land, swaying and bending with the shadows and leaves as if he were apart of it.

reachinga patch of tall yellow grass that better suited his lighter brown, gray, and white pelt the male drew nearer to the sparrows. he carefully placed his paws, making sure to avoid disturbing rocks and othe debris. His eye careful repeated teh pattern he had established, focusing on the bird long enough to get a location and a reading of their demenor befor e shifting to a spot just left or right of them to alow him to cotinue watching them without having his gaze bore into them and alert them or set them on edge.

Nerves, excitement rushed through him, and he paused to take a moment to calm himself so he did not make a mistake; to rush this because he was nervious or excited would be a fatal mistake. Once he got into position the appreantice paused, took in a silent breath as he gathered himself, then carefully let it out before launching at the birds as they pecked at the ground his eys locked on the closest one. The other let out a startled squack as it saw him rush its partner alerting the other to his presence, but the male ignored this as he watched the other open its wings. As it leaped of the ground he leaped, barely managing to snap his jaws around its tail feathers causing the avian to come crashing to the ground feathers disconnecting from the bird as Apachepaw ripped most of its tail out of it rear.

Undetered the apprentice did not hestitate or sulk as he launched at the bird once more, its wings flailing as it attampted to become airborn once more. its ruined tail throwing it off balance. Asfast as an adder the wolf was on top of it jaws closing around its neck as it wings whiped at his face, until finally falling still as the bird drew its last break. Apachepaw remained stil lfor several seconds his jaws firmly clamped arount hte bird's broken neck, ears swiveling catching the sound of an alarm call from the one who escaped. Ignoring it the malehefted the dead carcass up and turned to show his mentor.

((Updated with the failed bird catch. I had updated for the vole previously but I managed to miss the bird. And, don't worry too much about mistakes ^^))

Nightfeather's eyes switched between Apachepaw and the birds, noting the apprentice's tactic and reactions from the birds. The birds remained blissfully unaware of the male's presence, pecking at the ground as he stalked closer. The warrior abandoned the birds and focused on Apachepaw as he stopped in a near-perfect position. He was nearly invisible among the tall grass - it was no surprise that the birds had no idea of what was about to happen. She watched him closely as she waited for him to strike, hoping her stare wasn't putting him on edge. Hunting under the pressure of being watched was never easy, and she wanted it to be as easy as possible for the young male.

The female's ears pricked and she straightened up a bit as one of the feathered creatures voiced it's shock at Apachepaw's attack and flew away to safety, the other bird almost as lucky. It was close to escaping, despite the apprentice's jaws closing in on its feathers. Nightfeather, not expecting the young male to continue his attack on the animal, opened her mouth to comment on the attempt before closing it as Apachepaw launched at the bird once again, this time able to deliver the killing blow. "Well done. I thought you said you had trouble with birds," she said, adding the last part in jokingly as Apachepaw turned around to show her the kill.

he dropped the prey, panting more from nervse then exertion. "I'm not," he said, sitting to shake his head," i thought I'd lose that one like the last few I've attempted to catch, I was lcuk I managed to damage its tail or else i would have." He shook his head revealing in his own dumb luck rather then skill. "I would rather not rely on sheer luck everytime i attempt to bring down a bird, I almost wish i hadn't caught it, I guess i laerned something though." his usual smile returned to his face as he looked on the bright side of things.

he indeed wished the bird had escaped, the catch did not feel like a triuphant accomplishement, he had made a mistake and should have lost. Luck wasn't a skill, it was a random act of fate which he had no control over. he shrugged and pciked up the bird, "At least I'll have something to contribut to the fresh kill pile this time." he mumbled around the feathery creature.

"Luck may not be a skill, but it's better than nothing," Nightfeather said, frowning at the negativity of the apprentice. "Though if you want another bird-hunting tip, try to keep as calm as possible. It's a bit more of a general hunting tip, but I think it applies to birds more than other animals. Honestly, the best way to improve on bird-catching is to improve on your speed, but speed isn't always something that can be improved upon," she added. Birds were among the most difficult prey to catch; even if Apachepaw had trouble with them, he still could catch them. If the other bird hadn't been there to alert the now-dead creature, he might have had an easier time killing it. Still, he did catch it. It'd feed someone.
