Greenleaf, prey is once more plentiful. The forests and Moors are filled with tasty nibbles of prey while the river is almost choked with fish.

Nightfeather briskly trotted through the woodlands to the Burnt Sycamore. The air was cool, or at least it was for one who had not fully grown a winter coat, and the sun was still rising. This was the time she and Silentpaw had agreed to begin training. Reaching the tree, she looked around to see if he was already there. He was not. The deputy didn't mind, though. He could hardly be expected to run through ShadowClan territory so early in the morning and be ready for training when she herself got there. Besides, it gave her some time to relax before the training started.

Moments later Silentpaw appeared out of no-where. His fur on the top of his head was a mess as he had just woken up. He looked around for Nightfeather and then spotted the deputy. He trotted over, panting to her. He was first up in the apprentice den as Mistypaw was still asleep. "Hello Nightfeather." He panted. "Lovely morning isn't it?"

"Morning Silentpaw," Nightfeather said as the young apprentice trotted to her. At his question, she looked up at the sky and then back to him. "It's alright," she said thoughtfully. "Any preference on what we start with today?" she asked. In all honesty, she wasn't sure what to start with, so she figured she may as well ask Silentpaw if there was anything he wanted to learn in particular.

"I was wondering if we could do some hunting?" He asked hopefully. He would like to do some hunting so that he would be able to catch his own prey, then practise his fighting skills.
He looked around waiting. Slowly he then sat down as he noticed he hadnt yet done.

"Alright then. You'll have to find something to hunt first, though," Nightfeather said. "Concentrate on your environment. Do you see, smell, or hear anything, besides us?" the deputy asked, looking at Silentpaw expectantly. She hoped the apprentice would succeed in finding prey - she herself could already smell a couple rabbits. Not the easiest catch, but it'd be practice if he could find them.. or something else.

Silentpaw's ears twitched. He thought as he spoke. "I am sure i can hear some rustling over there near that tree." He spoke. "I can smell a fresh scent of of rabbit or hare?" He asked confused struggling to tell the diffrences between the two similar animals. He then paused for a second. He smelt an unfamiluar scent. "I can also smell a faint scent of moose? deer?"

Nightfeather nodded. "It's a rabbit. There are two of them around here, actually. As for the other scent.." she stopped and concentrated on the fainter scent, just to make sure, "that would be moose. It'd take a group of wolves to take down a moose, but I can teach you how to catch one of those rabbits." The deputy looked around briefly, looking for something the apprentice could practice on before going after the real prey. Noticing a large stick close by, she grabbed the stick and dragged it back to Silentpaw. "We'll use this to practice. I know it'll be a bit awkward, but it's still practice. Be quiet though, don't scare them off," she said. "Now watch what I do."

The female stepped away from the stick so she was a fair distance away from it, then crouched down. She carefully crept toward the stick, making sure to avoid stepping on leaves or twigs, and making sure her footsteps were light. Then, once she was within lunging distance of the stick, she froze for a second and then lunged at it, grabbing it in her mouth. Then dropping it, she looked back at Silentpaw. "Do that. Except, instead of just grabbing it and letting go, kill it," she said. "If you have any questions, ask now. If you don't, then give it a shot."

Silentpaw looked at the twig and moved a fair distance away. He crouched down and stalked towards the twig. Making sure he was clear from standing on anything he stalked a bit more and then leaped and put his paws on the twig and then picking it up in his jaw. He spat it out and looked at Nightfeather. "Is there any specific possition you have to be in to start stalking it like if the wind blows one way you have the stalk the oppisite?"

Nightfeather nodded. "Yes. You should always be in a position where your prey cannot see or smell you. If it knows that you're there, it'll run away and you won't be able to catch it. Also, step lightly when you can. Smaller animals can feel the vibrations your paws make." The female then looked toward where one of the rabbits hid. Silentpaw had done well for his first try, though that was with an inanimate object. Nightfeather wondered how well he would do with a live animal, though she didn't want to pressure the young male into doing something he didn't feel ready for. "Do you feel confident enough to get a rabbit, or would you rather practice with the stick a bit more?"

"Erm... i would like to try a live animal." He said. He sniffed the air, looking around for a scent. When he found one it was not that far away and slowly crouched down. He looked at Nightfeather and then focused on the animal again. He looked at the leaves infront of him and dodged them silently. He stopped before he was a leap away from the rabbit but it ran away. He ran as fast as he could, scattering towards it. He caught the rabbits tail and then moved his paws on its back and then killed the rabbit. He watched the rabbit take its last breath and then dug a hole to burry it. "Have i done it right? I did rubbish didnt i? I only just caught it!" He complained.

Nightfeather watched as Silentpaw hunted the rabbit. He was silent - his mother chose his name well -, though the rabbit still ran from him. "You didn't do too bad. It was your first try," she said as the apprentice complained. "Rabbits are also one of the hardest small animals to catch. They almost always know you're there. You did pretty much everything right, though your crouch could use a bit of work. Make sure your whole body is lowered, though not low enough so as to brush against the ground. Keep your tail down, as well," she said, demonstrating a proper crouch as she explained.

(Ive just burnt my wrist and it hurts like crazy :3)

Silentpaw copyed Nightfeathers crouch and lowered his body lower than last time. Well, He thought, At least she appreciates my kill. He sniffed the air again, determined to find another scent when he smelt the moose scent again. He ignoared that one and then found a fresh scent of what he guessed a sparrow. It wasnt up in a tree when he discovered it. It was on the ground looking for twigs and leaves for its nest. "Nightfeather,"Silentpaw started. "Can i try and go for something a bit harder... like a flying animal perhaps?"

((Aw DX Hope it feels better soon))

Nightfeather nodded in approval as the apprentice copied her. He learned quickly, that was good. And from his suggestion, he was ambitious. Even better. The suggestion caught the deputy by surprise, though she wasn't going to say no to it. "Like a bird? Sure. Be very careful though, when they get startled - and they startle easily - they fly away and there's no hope of catching them," she said. "Be quick too, if you can. They don't stay on the ground for long," she added. That was an important piece of information, it wouldn't have been good if she had forgotten to tell it.

"Okay..." He answered. He stalked the bird silenter that he had ever done before. Nightfeathers words echoed in his head. "Be very careful though, when they get startled - and they startle easily - they fly away and there's no hope of catching them," When he got closer he stopped waiting for the right time. He wanted this to be his first 100% sucsessful hunt with no faults. When he got closer he accendently stood on a twig and the bird flew up a tree but luckily Silentpaw saw not a sparrow but a finch. He looked at the plump bird and repeated what he last did. crouched down and leaped on the bird and with no faults picked it up and spat it out and grinned. He dug and burried it as he wanted one more hunt. Mice. "What that okay?" He asked concerened about his last few hunts.

"Your first attempt? No, and I'm sure you know why. Your second attempt? That was wonderful," Nightfeather said. The female was impressed with how quickly Silentpaw had improved. If he was this quick to learn with everything else, training him would be a breeze. He didn't seem quite as confident as she had expected, though. Oh well, confidence came with time. "Smell anything else you can catch, have any questions, or shall we move on?" she asked.

Silentpaw sniffed the air. He could only smell the moose again. "Nope though i do smell a pigeon and a raven but i cant see any and they are probually nesting or caring for their young." He replied. "I would quite like to work on my offensive fighting."He added. He sat and caught his breath from chasing the rabbit then attempting to kill two birds one sucsessful. Silentpaw thought he did well for hunting today since he caught a rabbit.

"Alright. I'll demonstrate a couple of fighting moves for you, and we can go from there," Nightfeather said. The deputy had hoped that Silentpaw would suggest offensive fighting, and he did. Perfect. "This one isn't the most basic move," she began, "but it's a good one for apprentices to know. It's called the 'leap-and-hold', and it's very good if you're up against a larger opponent. You begin by crouching down-" the female crouched in a way very similar to a hunting crouch, "and then leap at your opponent's back, gripping them with your claws," she then returned to her normal stance, as she could not have been able to demonstrate the actual move as well as she wanted. "Now that you've got them, they can't attack you, and you're in a good position to inflict some damage."

Nightfeather paused for a moment, giving the apprentice a chance to absorb all this information before continuing. "The other two moves I want to start off with are much simpler," she said, walking up to Silentpaw. "The first one is a simple blow to the head, using one of your front paws." The female then brought down a front paw gently on Silentpaw's head. "Obviously, in battle, you wouldn't be gentle. The other move is very similar. Instead of simply bringing down your paw, you slice downward at your opponent's face or body." She took a few steps back, then made a downward slicing movement with her paw.

"Slice downward." He repeated copying every movement Nightfeather made with her paws. Silentpaw went behind a bush and stalked a bit, ran out of the bush and sliced the air as if it was an ambush and he was attacking. He sat down and waited for Nightfeather to tell him more.

Nightfeather watched in amusement as Silentpaw repeated the moves she had shown him. There was no real reason for her to find it amusing, as all he was doing was practicing, but she had to admit that wolves looked a bit silly when fighting invisible enemies. "Right," she said when he stopped, "the next move is a finishing move. If you do it right, and your opponent has a brain, he or she will run off. It's done by rearing up," which the female then did, "and bringing your weight down on your opponent." Her paws then met the ground again, hard. "Now, he or she might do the same to you, in which case you can wrestle them and flip them under you to regain control over the battle."

"Yes, you could pin them down. Really, what you do with it is up to you as long as you don't actually kill them. Killing is only used as a last resort," Nightfeather replied. She hoped it would never come to a point where Silentpaw could actually kill someone, though she felt it was best to make sure he knows that killing was a last resort. She didn't even want to teach him the one move that was a definite kill, though it was probably best that she did. "And, speaking of killing.. if you absolutely have to do it, there is one move that will kill. It's a hard bite to the back of the neck, the same way you might kill a prey animal. It's generally considered dishonourable though.. and you'll have to live with the knowledge that you took the life of another wolf."

Silentpaw nodded respectfully. He took in all the information. "So. When can i practise fighting?" He asked. He sat down and looked around.

"Right now, if you'd like," Nightfeather said. The female adjusted her stance so as to appear more aggressive. "You're alone, and I'm a ThunderClan warrior. I just crossed the border into ShadowClan territory. Attack me," she growled. She watched Silentpaw intently, waiting for him to make a move, watching for any movement that would betray him.

Silentpaw got into position and then ran towards Nightfeather. He then jumped onto her back doing the "leap-and-hold-". He clinged onto her with his claws and attempted to pin her down. When he managed he waited for Nightfeather to do something.

Nightfeather tried to duck to avoid Silentpaw, but she was too late. The apprentice had already grabbed her, and was trying his best to pin her. The female struggled to stay up, but her smaller, less muscular frame certainly didn't help. She collapsed under the apprentice, but she wasn't quite done. She then tried to roll over, a common counter technique to the leap-and-hold.
