Firespell padded into the sandy hollow and sat down, waiting for Streakpaw. She smiled, the pup was keen to be a warrior and to prove herself to the firey deputy. The firey female's pelt glowed like fire as she shook it. Firespell smiled this was where Luna had trained her and Falconpaw. So many memories.

Streak paw nods and jumps down from the branch. Without making a sound, she slinks towards the fox. She jumps out in front of it and scares it away. She runs back to Fire spell with a victorious look on her face. "May we do a bit of hunting?" She asks Fire spell.

Firespell had watched all this with approval. "You did good, Streakpaw. Yes we can do some hunting now." She nodded and grinned. "The hunting crouch is to be done like this." The firey wolf crouched down with her tail tucked in and paws splayed out. "You mustn't let your belly touch the grass though."

Streakpaw nods and crouches. She walks a little, then stumbles and falls. The second time she falls. But, the third time she does it better and she doesn't fall. "Like that?" She asks.

"Yes, like that", said Firespell. "Remember to keep your tail a little bit higher in future but overall, I think you did quite well for a beginner." The firey female raised her head and sniffed the air. "No the next rule for hunting is scenting your prey. See if you can smell any prey in the hollow then tell me where it is."

Streakpaw Looks up at the sky and uses her nose like that. "I smell, a baby deer, a mouse and a vole." She says. "Which one do you wanna go for?" She asks Firespell. "It is around that way, all of them."

"I think the vole would be best because mice are easily caught and despatched." Firespell looked at the baby deer grazing quietly. "And that deer is too young to die. Let it live and grow." Her amber eyes gleamed with excitement. "One of the most important rules of hunting is to not to let the prey scent you. Stay downwind of them when you are stalking." Firespell budged Streakpaw. "Go on."

She stalks downwind and pounces on the prey. She swats it toward a tree and it dies on impact. "How was that?" She asks while carrying it to Firespell.

Firespell smiled. "That was good, Streakpaw! Well done." She thought, Wow, Streakpaw's blows have become packed with strength. She'll make a formidable warrior one day. Turning back, Firespell said. "Now bury the prey in the ground and we'll come back for it later. Let us lopk for some bigger prey."

Streakpaw digs a hole then burys it. "I smell, a doe." She says, looking at Firespell. "Could we get that?" She asks, smelling the scents in again.

She opened her mouth and then shut it again. Why not? "All right then", Firespell said. The firey wolf got up and smiled as she crept slowly towards the doe. "Move carefully and slowly until you are sure of a clear target", she whispered. "Ok?" Firespell stared down at her young apprentice. "When you're ready, Streakpaw."

Streakpaw nods and moves downwind. At the side of the doe, she lunges at the leg. It brakes free, but it cant run a full gait. Streakpaw quickly catches up to it and lunges at its neck. It falls over and can't get up. She looks at Firespell. "Do you want me to kill it? You can if you want to."

Firespell nodded and walked up to the fallen deer. She dispatched it with a single bite to the neck and turned to her apprentice. "Would you like to have some of it?" she asked. The firey deputy tore off a piece and began eating. Between mouthfuls, Firespell said: "Streakpaw, would you like to learn some more fighting skills?"

Firespell finshed eating and came over to Streakpaw. "Much", she said. "I learnt one very good trick for getting close to an enemy. Watch this." She jumped up on her hind legs and whirled around in a deadly spiral of claws and teeth. The firey wolf stopped before she hit her apprentice. "That can be used to both surprise and get your teeth in close to the enemy."

Streakpaw does it without hitting Firespell and says. "Like that?" She looks curiously at her. Her head tilts a little.

"Yes, exactly like that", Firespell smiled. "Do that again, only this time I will defend myself. This skill includes mainly speed. If you do it well and fast, you can hit your opponent before they can hit back." She was ready to defend, stiffening her back.

Steakpaw nods. And she does it as quick as she can, her speed taking advantage. She attacks lightly, knowing it may hurt. "How was that?"

"You were very good", Firespell grinned and gave Streakpaw a lick. "You're a fast one, aren't you. I shall have to watch out for you when you're a warrior." She drew herself up to her full height. "You can also intimidate your enemy by ruffling your fur and arching your back. A enemy that's frightened is an enemy that could be easily beaten. Now try intimidating me."

Streakpaw smiles. She ruffled her fur and she looks fluffier. She arches her back and she looks a lot bigger than the already is, which she is big for her age. "Like that?"

Firespell bared her teeth a little bit. "Yes but try ranking it up a notch. Show your teeth and stretch your paws out. Look really frightening!" She made her shoulders bristle and tail ruffle up to help Streakpaw.

Streakpaw nods and Bares her teeth. She does a small growl. She stretches out her paws and says, "Like this?"

Firespell relaxed and smiled at Streakpaw. "Yes, that's it! If I was an enemy, I'd be scared. Another surprise move is to back kick at your enemy from behind. Judge the distance between you and your foe carefully and then lash out with your back legs." She showed her apprentice this, just on her own. "I put my weight on my front paws when I did this fighting move. It stops me from falling over. You only get one chance to do this move in a fight, Streakpaw."

Streakpaw says. "OK." She jumps over firespell and kicks back. "Like that?"

The firey female staggered a bit. "Good, good. Do that once more for me, please before we move on." She grinned at Streakpaw and stood up to show she wasn't hurt.

Streakpaw does it again. "Like that?" She looks at her mentor curiously. She held her gaze.
